The Vice President, is responsible for managing the collection, recording and reporting of all pertinent financial data and transactions; applying principles of accounting to prepare and analyze financial information and address accounting issues; training and management of accounting staff; and assisting with other financial functions.. Essential Job Functions. Trains, supervises, and regularly evaluates performance and counsels accounting staff. Directs and supervises work performed by Associates and Analysts. Ensures proper orientation of staff into the organization.. Keeps Director Financial Reporting informed of all significant activity and transactions.. Prepares financial statements, footnotes and supporting schedules and performs analysis prior to distribution.. Establish and implement metrics, and develop work plans for major programs and projects (NMLS and State reporting, GSEs, MBFRF, debt and compliance, etc) that meet the organization's goals and reporting timelines, including developing and maintaining financial reporting calendar.. Preparation of quarterly debt covenants and stand-alone financial statements published to internal and external users.. Prepares and analyzes mortgage banking business units and segment financial information each period (including preparation of variance analyses, analysis of transactions and results, etc.) on a GAAP basis. Quarterly preparation, analysis, communication, and resolution of issues on financial information to be included in regulatory filings and in the footnotes.. Provide leadership, motivation, and direction to directors, managers, and employees to ensure the continued development and management of an efficient organization; establish effective decision making processes that achieve goals and objectives.. Delegates authority to supervisory staff for task details to facilitate efficient utilization of resources, and continually helps team improve process efficiencies.. Create and promote a positive, inclusive work environment that supports consistency throughout the departments strategic and operational methods, and promotes cross-locational alignment to successfully execute goals and objectives.. Leads project teams, working cross functionally, thinking both critically and strategically.. Interacts frequently with various stakeholders including senior management, differing business units, external auditor, and the wider finance team (HREC Accounting, FP&A, treasury, HCI, etc).. Prepares/analyzes and coordinates information for audits, including annual corporate audit, individual business unit audits, etc.. Documents and participates in implementation of accounting standards and accounting control procedures.. Facilitates departmental involvement in systems projects and enhancements to shorten the close cycle time and financial reporting time.. Ensure the proper and continuous flow of accounting activities needed to maintain accurate complete financial records.. Maintain effective communication with other departments, including HREC Accounting, as a basis for assuring complete and accurate financial information and appropriate documentation.. Maintain and document compliance with internal controls in accordance with Sarbanes-Oxley requirements.. Identify, research, document, and implement accounting for technical accounting including whitepapers, processes, alternatives, transaction flows, and disclosures. Responsible for GAAP policy research and documentation.. Responsible for memos supporting accounting positions for significant transactions.. Includes other duties and responsibilities as directed. Performs other duties and projects as assigned.. Education. Bachelor's Degree in Accounting required. CPA preferred.. Experience and Qualifications. Five to seven years accounting experience, including preparation of financial statements.. One to two years public accounting experience is desirable. Knowledge of GAAP, budget variance analysis and SEC accounting and reporting. Strong knowledge of chart of accounts, general ledger, trial balance, financial statement preparation, GAAP and internal control policies and procedures required.. Management ability to direct, guide, motivate, and develop staff.. Ability to prioritize for self and others, strong organizational skills.. Strong time management and organizational skills.. Strong computer skills and proficiency with MS Office applications. Advanced Excel skills required.. Other Skills. Requires a detail oriented, self-starter who takes initiative and can be a part of a team and work effectively in a multi-locational team and organization. Must demonstrate strong attention to detail, and demonstrate knowledge of accounting practices and procedures. Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills, particularly the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management and industry professionals..
