Switchboard Operators/Call Handler - Multiple Roles

Multiple permanent roles for a large NHS trust, flexible working hours available if required including part time.

The Switchboard Operators/telephony staff are normally the initial contact between members of the public, patients and NHS personnel. The post holder will be required to actively promote a positive and professional image and attitude to both internal and external callers at all times. They will be required to promote a professional manner and communicate effectively with patients, members of the public, GP's, trust staff, departments, visitors and suppliers.

Telephonists are required to work as part of a team in a busy environment operating a computerized console, responding to calls and activating emergency procedures. To ensure the services are maintained throughout the 24-hour operation. This is a busy environment communicating with Patients and their families and friends who often feel stressed.

Staff are required to frequently work under their own initiative and make immediate decisions in the event of problems. Telephony staff are required to operate various computerised systems where IT skills are required, to operate all departmental communication systems and undertake all Switchboard and Telecoms clerical duties.

Band 3 - £ 21,730 - 23,177 (pro rata) per annum. Plus weekends and unsocial hour's enhancements. The Shift pattern is variable to cover a 24hr service over 7 days a week. Variable hours per week and flexible to work up to 37.5 hours as required. Working shifts to cover 24/7/365. The switchboards operate 24/7/365, including weekends, evenings, night shifts and bank holidays.

This is a rewarding, busy and sometimes stressful role supporting our Clinical staff, patients and their families which requires flexibility and a calm demeanor. Full training and a good induction period is part of the role.
