Assistant Planning Enforcement Officer Breckland

We are looking to recruit an Assistant Planning Enforcement Officer who is looking to build their reputation and portfolio of planning experience in a successful, rapidly growing consultancy based in East Anglia.

Breckland District covers an area of 1,305 kilometres and in one the largest rural districts in England. Nestling just on the Norfolk/Suffolk border Breckland is centred round the five main market towns of Attleborough, Dereham, Swaffham, Thetford and Watton. There are also 112 parishes in Breckland but the majority of the population is centred round the five market towns

Key Responsibilities:

* To manage a personal caseload of minor and other applications, including:

- Assessment of the need for planning permission

- Pre-application assessments of planning merits of schemes

- Planning applications, predominantly householder and those considered to be minor in nature to include prior approvals

- Appeals primarily relating to householder developments

* To provide support and assistance to colleagues within the Technical Support team as required

* To keep up to date with current legislation and policy changes

* To deal with all aspects of the Development Management process to include consultations and negotiations

* To provide support to the Enforcement Team and the Planning Policy team

* To provide timely reports and recommendations to the manager of the development management team

* To provide professional advice on planning matters to clients, the public, Members of the Council, and others as necessary

* To provide guidance to technical staff in the delivery of the development management service

* To negotiate with applicants and agents to obtain quality outcomes within the time constraints set out in the business's contractual arrangements

* To keep up to date with current legislation and policy changes

* To contribute to consultancy projects for the business

Requirements: (Essential)

You will be expected to have:

* Experience in development management working within a busy team environment delivering a range of planning applications preferably within a Local Authority

* A degree in Town and Country Planning or working towards a suitable recognised qualification

* A desire to work towards membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute;

* Some knowledge of current legislation relating to planning

* Good verbal and written communication skills

* Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Outlook, Excel etc)

* The ability to prioritise and manage a workload, and to work flexibly to meet the commercial and contractual requirements of the business

* The ability to use initiative to solve challenges and to work under pressure to produce timely, accurate high quality work

* The ability to work with a wide range of people and to work as a member of a team

* Hold a current driving licence and access to your own vehicle
