Risk Management Specialist / Director of Operational Risk

Analyze and manage risk management issues by identifying, measuring, and making decisions on operational risks for an organization. Develops and administers risk management programs. Creates and modifies policies to comply with safety legislation and industry practices. Promotes organization-wide understanding about risks and risk management strategies. Knowledge about legal issues around organization liability and insurance trends. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives and develops policies/procedures to support the infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed real estate and solid knowledge of the overall departmental functions.

  • Develop contingency plans to deal with emergencies and disasters, with step by step processes for all property levels.
  • Develop disaster recovery plans for physical locations. Establish, maintain, or test call trees to ensure appropriate communication during disaster. Test documented disaster recovery strategies and plans.
  • Write reports to summarize testing activities, including descriptions of goals, planning, scheduling, execution, results, analysis, conclusions, and recommendations. Review existing disaster recovery, crisis management, or business continuity plans.
  • Coordinates and develops organization-wide programs for risk-free services. Establish, execute and manage a preventive maintenance and risk management program, including budgetary considerations.

  • Recommend ways to control or reduce risk using monthly safety meetings and input from field. Create or administer training and awareness presentations or materials.
  • Analyze areas of potential risk to the assets or success of organizations.
  • Document, and ensure communication of, key risks to executive management and key stakeholders, along with strategies to reduce or remove the risks.
  • Maintain input or data quality of risk management systems (IssueTrak).
  • Contribute to continued development of risk management system(s).
  • Gather risk-related data from internal or external resources. (Follow-up with tickets entered in IssueTrak, determine which category they belong to and who should be notified, continue follow-up until ticket can be satisfactorily closed).
  • Meet with internal and external clients to answer queries on subjects such as risk exposure, market scenarios, or values-at-risk calculations.
  • Produce reports or presentations that outline findings, explain risk positions, or recommend changes. Recommend or implement methods to monitor, evaluate, or enable resolution of safety, operations, or compliance interruptions.
  • Monitor and analyze new legislation to determine impact on risk exposure. (OSHA, HUD, EPA, etc.) Interpret government regulations and applicable codes to ensure compliance.
  • Devise scenario analyses reflecting possible severe environmental or hazardous events and provide action plans to site teams
  • May act as the liaison to attorneys, insurance companies, and individuals. Investigates any incidences that may result in an asset loss.
  • Administration and Management Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
  • Public Safety and Security Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions.
  • Customer and Personal Service Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Education and Training Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.
  • Clerical Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, stenography and transcription, designing forms, and other office procedures and terminology.
  • Communications and Media Knowledge of media production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods. This includes alternative ways to inform and entertain via written, oral, and visual media.
  • Telecommunications Knowledge of transmission, broadcasting, switching, control, and operation of telecommunications systems.
