Our Role

As a Senior Technical Specialist, you'll be responsible for the effective day-to-day running and operational support of mainly Oracle products. You will take the lead in detailed technical planning, set priorities and manage systems maintenance activities along with accountability for projects, undertaking technical reviews and performing quality assurance activities against proposed designs.

You will be accountable for enabling the ongoing maintenance, and develop service improvements to our core applications. With minimum support and guidance, you will apply your knowledge to the diagnosis and resolution of incidents, problems and in the development of technical solutions to satisfy business requirements.

The key outcome of your role will be to ensure operational excellence is continually maintained for our IT service as it scales to meet increasing business-led operational demands

We also expect you to have a very strong understanding of XML, SQL concepts and be able to write queries and/or stored procedures as well as perform regular application administrative maintenance tasks such as monitoring system and event logs and responding to alerts.

Your Skills and Experience

You'll need to understand how to deliver configuration and customisation functions and ensure that ease of vendor-driven upgrade paths can be sustained. You should possess a good understanding of the system development lifecycle and how changes can be safely applied to production environments at scale. You will also have experience in creating and reviewing technical documentation, and operating a support function in line with ITIL methodologies.

Whilst previous knowledge of MDM, MWM, the OUAF Framework, XAI and Xpath would be beneficial, it's not essential to apply for this role. You will have a thirst to learn in order to gain the knowledge and understanding to succeed in this role. We are looking for a dynamic, passionate individual that will be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience of managing complex Oracle applications in a support or development environment supporting business critical systems in an organization of a similar scale.

Owing to the extent of interaction required with our Retail business, internal IT, external 3rd-party vendors and system integrator-led teams, you'll also demonstrate excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. You will need to apply a level of governance to hold our support partners to account and drive continuous improvement to deliver positive business outcomes. Previous experience of working with a third party offshore support and development partner would be advantageous.

This is a challenging technical role, in support of an expanding part of the business, and we are looking for a highly-motivated, resilient, versatile and analytical individual who leads by example and will become fully integrated into the current team.
