Xavier University of Louisiana invites nominations and applications for the position of Associate Vice President for Research and Sponsored Programs. Xavier, which is located in New Orleans, is the nation's only Historically Black and Catholic institution of higher learning. Founded in 1925, the University is mission-driven and committed to the promotion of a more just and humane society. Reaffirming its African American heritage and its Catholic tradition for more than nine decades, Xavier offers its students a quality education and opportunities for leadership development. Xavier currently enrolls about 3,200 students and is comprised of the College of Arts and Sciences which awards Bachelor's, Master's, and the Doctor of Education degrees and the College of Pharmacy which awards the Doctor of Pharmacy degree. The Associate Vice President for Research and Sponsored Programs (AVPRSP) reports to the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, provides leadership in research development and is responsible for the management and implementation of research-related programs and policies that support the University's mission and strategic goals and objectives.. The AVPRSP's duties and responsibilities include: -- Providing an effective grants information system for faculty use and assisting faculty members in developing proposals to obtain external funding; -- Developing/submitting university-wide, institutional proposals that assist the University in moving forward in its strategic priorities; -- Working with the Provost and the Deans to identify and prioritize major grant opportunities; -- Reviewing, editing and approving all grant proposals/applications for submission and ensuring the highest levels of service to investigators and grant managers, ensuring that all submissions forwarded are clear and comply with funding program priorities, including university-wide and external policies; -- Providing primary contracting authority for sponsored programs, and serving as the University's primary representative to sponsoring agencies and the campus on all sponsored program matters; -- Developing outreach programs to provide training and assistance to faculty and staff who are involved in externally funded programs; -- Managing research compliance committees and overseeing required government compliance reporting; acting as the Institutional Research Compliance Official; -- Developing information and material needed for reports and presentations to the Board of Trustees and other entities; -- Collaborating with the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Vice President of Fiscal Services, and other members of University leadership on the implementation of university-wide policies related to the receipt and management of revenue from government sources; and -- Ensuring that effective systems are in place to allow for the commercialization of University-owned intellectual property.. Minimum Qualifications:. -- An earned Master's degree, Ph.D. desirable; -- Documented grant writing and management experience; -- A record of grant funding particularly with the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, and other major funding agencies; -- At least eight years of progressive leadership/administrative experience in higher education; -- Knowledge and experience in working with data and software systems related to proposal development, grants management, and research compliance; -- Knowledge and understanding of best practices in all aspects of pre-award and post-award non-financial administration; -- Strong problem solving, organizational, and project management skills; and -- Excellent oral and written communications skills..
