The Role:

Our Architecture team is central to shaping the business, technology, data and operating strategies which will enable and ultimately realise the vision outlined in Framing our Future.

As an Enterprise Data Architect, you will have a genuine opportunity to play a key role in developing, influencing and shaping the key strategies which will set the business up for long term success, and to drive excellence into everything we do. Your knowledge and experience will directly contribute to developing the architecture maturity and capability of the team and of the wider business.

Data will be central to enabling Principality to deliver our long term vision of a data-driven digital business which puts Members, Customers and Colleagues at the heart of everything we do. The role of the Enterprise Data Architect will be pivotal to achieving this goal, ensuring that the strategies we build and the programmes which implement them enable us to get maximum value from our data.

This is a fully hybrid role - you can choose to work from home or in our newly refurbished office in Central Cardiff - as appropriate to your professional and personal commitments. With a senior role such as this, some aspects will be more successful when done in person - such as where collaboration with a wider team is involved - and you may be required to attend in person, but there is currently no expectation of regular office attendance.

Key Qualities & Experience You Will Need

  • At least 5 years experience of operating in senior architecture roles - experience of both Waterfall and Scrum/ Agile delivery methodologies being will be beneficial, as will experience of performing the role within a regulated industry.
  • You do not need to hold a recognised architecture qualification such as TOGAF but a solid understanding and exposure to a wide range of architecture domains outside of your core data speciality is required e.g. business, enterprise, security, integration, applications, infrastructure, process - allowing you to take a holistic approach to problems.
  • A key aspect of the role will be to work with Business stakeholders and the Head of Data to define our Enterprise Data Strategy and related technology strategies - you should be able to demonstrate your understanding of how to formulate business/ technology strategies as evidenced by your experience in a prior role.
  • Your confidence and resilience will be key to helping the business succeed as we implement our strategies and the changes to our business and operating models which they will necessitate.
  • You should be an excellent communicator, comfortable with presenting to and leading conversations with Business & Technology stakeholders, Suppliers & Partners, Heads of Functions and C-Level leaders.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build trust with stakeholders and to influence across the organisation.
  • A pragmatic approach, comfortable identifying and negotiating trade-offs whilst balancing strategic vs tactical imperatives, organisational risk appetite and financial constraints.
  • You will be Self-motivated and have with strong organisational skills, someone who takes ownership instead of leaving it to others. You are someone who is not comfortable with maintaining the status quo and will be a driving force for continuous improvement.
  • A natural problem solver, keen to understand multiple viewpoints but focused on getting to the root cause and fixing the actual problem rather than treating the symptoms.
  • You will be a team player, working in a team where honesty and integrity and are valued and trust in each other is paramount.

    Key Accountabilities:

    • Provide Data Architecture consultancy services to all areas and levels of the business.
    • Collaborate with the Head of Data to develop our Enterprise Data Strategy and key supporting strategies, and to produce the 'Roadmap' for our Operational and Analytical data estates.
    • Work collaboratively with stakeholders to develop and understand the role of Data in our key business and technology strategies.
    • Define the key strategies which will improve the maturity and capability of our data estate - making the right data available to the right person at the right time.
    • Improve data integrity through deployment master and reference data management practices, and data retrieval and retention practices
    • Set the Enterprise policies, patterns and practices which will ensure alignment between business & technology strategies.
    • Guide project outcomes towards our agreed architectural blueprints through proactive assurance and governance.
    • Contribute to driving up all aspects of data & architecture maturity - improving our ways of working, key processes, artefacts, governance framework, policies and standards.
    • Contribute to developing our reference architecture baseline.
    • Implement effective data governance frameworks that define, develop and maintain Current and Target Operating Models.
    • Manage relationships with key stakeholders, partners and 3 rd party suppliers
    • Provide data architecture input into RFI and RFP documentation, contributing to objectively reviewing & evaluating supplier responses.
    • Ensuring that data related risks are visible and have been recorded.

      Technical Skills:

      • Knowledge of Architecture principles & frameworks and their translation into solutions.
      • Awareness of current technology driven trends within the Financial Services and Retail arenas.
      • Experience of Operational and Analytical data architectures spanning hybrid legacy & Cloud environments.
      • Good working knowledge of data and analytics technologies, and cloud capabilities
      • Strong analytical problem solving skills with a solid understanding of data analysis.
      • End to End knowledge of Data Management and Exploitation capabilities
      • Architectures and modelling techniques to deliver Data Warehousing
      • High Availability Operational services (e.g. Lambda, Microservices)
