Principality is a mutual building society, owned by and run for the benefit of our 500,000 Members. As a business, we've been helping people across Wales and the borders to find homes and save towards what matters to them for 160 years.

As our Members and Customers' needs and ambitions evolve, we're transforming our business to keep pace and this takes people from a variety of backgrounds, with a combination of different skills and experience. People who can really support our business to be the best it can be and enable our colleagues to deliver the stand-out experience our Members and customers have come to expect.

This is an exciting time for the Society - we have recently set out our long term vision for the future of the Society, Framing our Future. Framing our Future lays out the ambition for how the Society will evolve over the next 10 years to serve our Members, Customers and the Communities which they care about.

The delivery of that vision will see the products and services which we offer, and the experience we deliver to our Members, Customers and to our Colleagues within the Society, evolve significantly as the business transforms through the next 10 years.

The Role:

Our Architecture team is central to shaping the business, technology, data and operating strategies which will enable and ultimately realise the vision outlined in Framing our Future.

This is a great time to join us - its a fantastic opportunity to come on-board at the start of a major business transformation programme. It is an opportunity to join an organisation which values its people and treats them with respect, supporting colleagues at every stage of their working life - in fact we have been officially recognised as one of the best super large workplaces in the UK at the Great Place to Work awards.

As an Enterprise Architect, this is a genuine opportunity to play a key role in developing, influencing and shaping the key strategies which will set the business up for long term success and to drive excellence into everything we do. Your knowledge and experience will also directly contribute to developing the architecture maturity and capability of the team and of the wider business.

Ideally, you will have experience working in a Security focused architecture role - either directly as a Security Architect, or indirectly e.g. in roles where organisational security was a primary consideration - and have the desire to extend that into a role with a strategic focus on security architecture. We believe in investing in the development of our People, and additional development will be provided to support this aspect of the role as required.

This is a fully hybrid role - you can choose to work from home or in our newly refurbished office in Central Cardiff - as appropriate to your professional and personal commitments. With a senior role such as this, some aspects will be more successful when done in person - such as where collaboration with a wider team is involved - and you may be required to attend in person, but there is currently no expectation of regular office attendance.

  • At least 5 years experience of operating in senior architecture roles - experience of working within both Waterfall and Scrum/Agile delivery methodologies will be beneficial, as will experience of performing the role within a regulated industry.

  • A key aspect of the role will be to work with the business to define our key business and technology strategies - you should be able to demonstrate your understanding of how to formulate business/technology strategies as evidenced by your experience in a prior role.
  • You will ideally have some practical experience of working in a Security Architecture role and/or a desire to do so in the future. Given the importance of this role, additional training and development will be provided for the successful candidate.
  • Your adaptability, confidence and resilience will be key to helping the business succeed as we implement our strategies and the changes to our business and operating models which they will necessitate.
  • You should be an excellent communicator, comfortable with presenting to and leading conversations with Business & Technology stakeholders, Suppliers & Partners, Heads of Functions and C-Level leaders.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build trust with stakeholders and to influence across the organisation.
  • A pragmatic approach, comfortable identifying and negotiating trade-offs whilst balancing strategic vs tactical imperatives, organisational risk appetite and financial constraints.
  • You will be self-motivated and have with strong organisational skills, someone who takes ownership instead of leaving it to others. You are someone who is not comfortable with maintaining the status quo and will be a driving force for continuous improvement.
  • A natural problem solver, keen to understand multiple viewpoints but focused on getting to the root cause and fixing the actual problem rather than treating the symptoms.
  • You will be a team player, working in a team where honesty and integrity are valued, and where trust in each other is paramount.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Provide architecture consultancy services to all areas and levels of the business.
