Pesticide Collaboration Coordinator
Location: Flexible in UK
Salary: £33,600 - £37,275 Per Annum
Benefits: Pension, 26 days Annual Leave, Life Assurance
Duration: Fixed Term for 36 months
Hours: Full Time
Our client, a nature conservation charity, is looking for experienced professionals, dedicated to achieving environmental and social justice, to jointly lead the Pesticide Collaboration for the next three years.
The Pesticide Collaboration was launched in 2021 by Pesticide Action Network UK (PAN UK) and the charity, and brings together health and environmental organisations, academics, trade unions, farming networks and consumer groups, working under a shared vision to urgently reduce pesticide-related harms in the UK.
This charity are recruiting one person based at the organisation (Pesticide Collaboration Coordinator) and one person based at PAN UK (Public Affairs and Media Officer) and the two roles will work closely together. The charity's role location is flexible, however, travel to London and occasionally other locations will sometimes be required.
The successful candidate will be passionate about working with others to advocate for change. You will be a team player, with proven experience of working to deliver projects.
You will be responsible for:
- Strategic planning of Collaboration activities, in particular being able to adapt and respond to a fast-paced changing environment
- Growing the membership of the Pesticide Collaboration to expand its audience and reach
- Working to advocate for changes to UK policy, legislation and regulation which will better protect human health and the environment from pesticides
- Working with others to mobilise members of the public to campaign for change
- Representing the collaboration externally, for example with political decision-makers, civil servants and journalists
- Producing a range of communication materials such as newsletters, blogs, social media posts and infographics
- Organising events on behalf of the collaboration, ensuring that they run professionally
- Putting in place the right governance structure to enable membership organisations to participate meaningfully in Collaboration decision-making and activities
- Managing the Collaboration as a project including: delivering against key performance indicators; identifying, managing and communicating risks; keeping stakeholders fully involved and informed; managing the budget; reporting to donors
What the charity needs from you:
Essential skills, knowledge and experience
- Highly developed project management and planning skills, in particular in relation to managing and planning advocacy activities and strategies
- Highly developed organisational skills and excellent time management
- Good understanding of the role of public facing communications/campaigns and public mobilisation in supporting advocacy
- Experience of building support and action through collaborative working
- Able to analyse complex issues in a fast-paced environment, and find creative solutions
- Excellent attention to detail and strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong leadership skills, in particular a demonstrable ability to advocate for change
- An ability to persuade and influence a wide range of people
- A good understanding of the UK political system and how to influence decision-makers
- Competent IT user
Desirable skills, knowledge and experience
- An understanding of pesticides and their impacts on the environment and human health
- A qualification in a field related to environment, health, politics or any other relevant topic
- Experience of working in collaborations and partnerships to achieve shared outcomes
- Policy development experience in any field
- Good understanding of relevant policy areas such as chemicals, environment or agriculture
- Experience of working with donors
The organisation reserves the right to extend or make this role permanent without further advertising dependent on business needs at the end of the contract term.
