It is expected that it will take a significant period of time for an individual to become competent in this role which could then lead to the attainment of higher level grades within the organisation.
To be suitable for this role, individuals will be able to demonstrate a number of the following attributes:
•Ideally have a qualification in electrical/electronic/mechanical or a closely related subject. This role does not require higher level studies such as a degree - an ONC or equivalent would be a good starting qualification.
•Have an interest in electrical/electronic/mechanical technologies and keep up to date in these subjects through reading and experimentation
•Have an understanding of design processes and the design and development life cycle
•Willingness to undertake a 4 year+ development programme to learn the totality of the component engineering role
•Have good verbal and written communication skills including good capability in office IT tools (ability to write VBA code would be an advantage)
•Be pro-active, motivated and tenacious in delivering tasks on time and to cost and solving problems encountered
