About the Position: The Capital Programs and Facilities Management Department is committed to planning, developing, and maintaining a safe, sustainable, and high quality learning and working environment for the campus community. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as a Supervising Plumber. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness. Supervises and works with a shop or crew of skilled journey level and semi-skilled trades personnel in the performance of maintenance and repairs work as outlined under the trades matrix, including attendance, evaluations and records. Oversees the design and installation of equipment and systems for new construction, modifications, preventive maintenance, service, maintenance and repairs, including planning, coordination, needs assessment, reviews, monitoring work and inspections, as well as estimates, prioritization, assignments, and scheduling of work and projects. Reads and interprets complex operating manuals, plans and specifications Integrates plumbing work with maintenance management systems. Monitors and reports on material usage purchased and/or issued to the shop, order parts and materials. Develops work and equipment records, installation standards, reports and other items listed under the State Qualification Standard and position matrix. Trains and develops shop and trades personnel assigned to shop, including technical and safety training. Other duties as assigned. Essential Qualifications Two or more years of experience as a journey-level plumber including one to two years in a lead/supervisory capacity. Thorough knowledge of effective supervisory practices and techniques, as well as a working knowledge of job design and work sequencing related to construction projects. Thorough knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the plumbing trade. Thorough knowledge of the operation of building automation systems, as well as applicable state and federal health and safety orders and regulations pertaining to the plumbing trade, including the California State Safety Orders of the Division of Industrial Safety and the California State Plumbing codes. Ability to plan and direct the work of skilled crafts workers and their semi-skilled assistants. Ability to determine and coordinate staffing, material, costs, and equipment needs for multiple jobs and projects. Ability to ensure accuracy and maintenance of assigned record-keeping systems and perform design work for plumbing systems. Ability to prepare lists of materials. Ability to ensure work is performed in sequence. Ability to maintain records and prepare more complex reports. Ability to perform skilled plumbing work on all applicable equipment and systems, perform applicable welding work, obtain necessary backflow prevention licenses, and make rough sketches of plumbing installations. Ability to read and work from blueprints, plans, drawings, and specifications. Ability to analyze and respond appropriately to emergency situations. Thorough knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the plumbing trade. Thorough knowledge of the operation of building automation systems, as well as applicable state and federal health and safety orders and regulations pertaining to the plumbing trade, including the California State Safety Orders of the Division of Industrial Safety and the California State Plumbing codes. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position. Preferred Qualifications Proven proficiency in engineering, designing, and constructing plumbing systems in new construction and/or major modifications. License/ Certification Valid California Driver's License Backflow certification Asbestos Certification Special Working Conditions Works on uneven surfaces; Works within construction sites; May be required to work off hour shifts and/or weekends; Ability to wear a respirator; Ability to move and install equipment weighing up to 50 lbs; Ability to climb and work on a ladder, man lifts; Ability to work in confined spaces; Position will carry a master key.
