ASSOCIATE VICE PRESIDENT FOR DEVELOPMENT University relations cultivates lifelong relationships with alumni, parents, and friends; grows pride in the Wesleyan community; and develops support for university initiatives through outreach activities, including development/fundraising, alumni, and parent relations; career resources for students and alumni; and events, including Homecoming/Family Weekend and Reunion/Commencement. The Associate Vice President (AVP) for Development will provide leadership and strategic direction while managing the day-to-day operation of the Major Gifts, Annual Giving, Research, and Parent Development programs. As a member of the Vice President for University Relations' (UR) senior leadership team, the AVP will collaborate internally to set priorities and devise strategies for meeting University-wide objectives, ensuring that the UR team is effective and maximizing resources. The AVP will manage a portfolio of high profile prospects and create innovative cultivation strategies designed to further the loyalty and engagement of the community to encourage higher levels of support and involvement. The AVP will directly oversee a number of Major Gift Officers and program directors for Annual Giving, Research and Parent programs. In these efforts the AVP will collaborate with trustees, University administration, academic leadership, and other University partners. Responsibilities include: * Design strategies and coordinate programs necessary to ensure continued fundraising success by providing advice, analysis, and recommendations on prioritization, planning, and policy issues relevant to University Relations. * In close collaboration with the VP for University Relations, the AVP will work to ensure development teams meet or exceed the University's fundraising expectations, providing leadership and direction to drive increased giving and participation. * Serve as a key member of the VP's senior leadership team, collaborating with colleagues on all fundraising and engagement efforts. * On occasion, represent the VP at cabinet and other on-campus meetings. * Working closely with the VP and other senior members of the UR team, the AVP will play a key role in developing, planning, implementing, tracking and achieving the fundraising goals of Wesleyan's next major comprehensive fundraising campaign. * Foster a collaborative team culture, mentor and provide feedback to staff to inspire accountability, success, continuous improvement and professional growth. Recruit, develop and retain high-performing development staff. * Use data and analytics to establish metrics for success, track them and to inform actions and investments to maximize the effectiveness of fund raising efforts. * Effectively cultivate and successfully solicit a portfolio of high profile prospects/donors capable of making significant contributions to the institution, travelling both domestically and internationally for prospect visits and events. * Oversee the partnership between University Relations and the Admission Office. * Effectively manage an annual operating budget. * Stay current on fundraising best practices Minimum Qualifications: * Bachelor's Degree and at least 7 years of progressively responsible fundraising and professional experience in a related field or an equivalent combination of education training and experience. * Demonstrated ability to engage individuals and articulate institutional needs, while exercising discretion and maintaining confidentiality. * Proven ability to work collaboratively and independently. * Proven ability to manage a team. * Demonstrated commitment to work within a diverse environment and interact openly with individuals of different backgrounds.
