About Positive Coaching Alliance Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) () is a national nonprofit organization founded at the Stanford University Department of Athletics in 1998. PCA provides training to coaches, parents, youth athletes, and youth sports organization leaders on how to use the youth sports experience to teach young athletes positive character traits and "life lessons" and to develop not only Better Athletes but more importantly Better People! Through partnerships with more than 3,000 schools and youth sports organizations (YSOs), PCA has conducted 18,000+ workshops for leaders, coaches, parents and athletes on using sports to teach life lessons. PCA is headquartered in Mountain View (CA), with Chapters in 18 cities, states and regions. About the PCA - Chief Financial Officer As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the CFO will be charged with leading the functions of Finance, Accounting, Revenue Recognition, Legal, Contracts Management and Risk Management. The CFO must be an effective leader both strategically and operationally, who will guide short and long term financial planning to ensure the organization's ability to meet its mission. An innovative thinker who works well in a collaborative and diverse environment, this position must be able to communicate key issues clearly in order to facilitate decision-making and promote understanding, The CFO will be strategic partner for our local Chapters leaders (now 18), evaluating and assisting them with their forecasting and budgeting processes, fundraising and financial strategies, and economic and performance modeling. S/he will be responsible for overseeing all fiscal and fiduciary responsibilities for the organization, in conjunction with the board of directors and the finance and audit committees of the board. The ideal candidate will be an experienced operator and finance executive, with demonstrated financial expertise, a breadth of strategic and general management experiences, and preferably an interest in youth sports. We are looking for a positive and tenacious data driven leader. Through exceptional leadership, he or she will act as mentor to a talented, high performing team creating an environment that encourages critical thinking, accountability, communication and efficient management of core initiatives. S/he operates both independently and collaboratively to solve problems and has a track record of inspiring diverse teams to do their best, while also building systems, policies, and processes that are efficient, equitable, and clear. Duties & Responsibilities Be a partner on strategy, vision and leadership: - Contribute to the development of the organization's strategic goals and objectives as well as the overall management of the organization. - Maintain continuous lines of communication with the CEO regarding all critical issues. - Advise the CEO and senior management on all operational matters that report up to this role. - Provide insight and recommendation on both short-term and long-term growth plan of the organization. - Solve business challenges with agile, solutions-focused approach. - Represent the organization externally with key partnerships, funding sources, banking, financial partners, auditors, insurance and legal team. - Collaborate with other departments to become a trusted business partner in solving organizational challenges. Lead the legal, compliance and risk efforts for PCA: - Partner with legal counsel to manage organizational legal matters. - Oversee and ensure the accurate and timely completion of all compliance related filings and registrations. - Review and approve all material contractual agreements including leases, Partnership contracts, and professional services engagements. - Monitor and manage organization insurance coverages and claim responses. Lead the financial operations of the organization: - Assess and evaluate financial performance of organization with regard to long-term operation goals, budgets and forecasts. - Work with the SLT and Chapter Executive Directors to plan, coordinate, and execute the annual budget process - Develop financial organizational strategies by contributing financial and accounting information, analysis, and recommendations to strategic thinking and direction; establishing functional objectives in line with organizational objectives. - Engage the board finance and audit committees around issues, trends, and changes in the operating model(s) and operational delivery. Assist in establishing yearly objectives . - Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting for government agencies, funders, and Board of Directors. Ensure that all financial records are complete, accurate, and audit-ready. - Oversee and continuously improve all finance and accounting operations including revenue recognition, cash management, procurement and vendor payment. - Manage cash flow projections and activities to ensure effective treasury operations while maintaining appropriate internal controls. Develop a reliable cash flow projection process and reporting mechanism that includes minimum cash threshold to meet operational needs. Optimize the handling of banking relationships and initiate appropriate strategies to enhance cash positions. Qualifications & Characteristics of Ideal Candidates Education/Certification - Bachelor's degree is required. - Master's degree in Business Administration, Finance, C.P.A. preferred. Knowledge and Work Experience - The CFO will be a seasoned and mature leader with at least 10-15 years of broad business operations and finance experience, ideally in the nonprofit field. S/he will have experience with progressively increasing scope of management within a diverse, division-based entity. - The candidate must have experience from an organization with diverse revenue streams. PCA is driven both by fee for service revenue and contributions. - Mature and proactive, with evidence of having worked as a true business partner to the SLT of a multi-divisional organization. If coming from the for-profit world, nonprofit board experience is preferred. - Strong analytical skills and experience interpreting a strategic vision into an operational model. - Past experience successfully partnering with IT staff to manage critical financial management systems. - Creative and experienced with funding activities in ways that both cover costs and generate operating margins. - Proven track record of leading progressive organizational change and development within a rapidly growing organization. - Possess a deep understanding of all aspects of financial operations including financial management, cash flow, reimbursement, ROI, cost/benefit analysis, decision support, financial modeling, financial compliance, revenue management. - Strategic and financial planning skills and orientation to assist in the formulation of the strategic financial direction for the organization in conjunction with the senior leadership team by asking the right questions, developing financial models, structuring, evaluating and negotiating appropriate arrangements. - Track record of successful team leadership; able to mentor and develop others and help employees maximize their performance. An effective delegator who holds staff accountable for results, and knows the details of the financial operations. - Experience in successfully and sensitively facilitating complicated relationships with high-profile individuals and organizations.
