This position is responsible for reviewing the accounts of students with outstanding balances for accuracy, investigating account problems, sending out the bills in a timely manner with proper notifications required by the New York State Law Section 18 and referring delinquent accounts to a collection agency or Office of the Attorney General. This position is responsible for the calculation of Title IV funds (Federal Aid and Loans) when a student separates from the college during the semester and will assist in the return of the Federal and Private loans. In addition, this position will be responsible for implementing, training, and overseeing a call center for the department during times of peak call volume. This position will also serve as backup to the Bursar as needed.

Additional responsibilities will also include:

Provide outstanding customer service to students and families on both the phone and in-person.

Provide financial aid information to students regarding the application process, needs determination, verification, and status of their financial aid application in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations, and policies.

Assist students with various questions regarding their accounts including but not limited to payments, holds, and refunds.

Assist students and parents with bill processing and payments.

Perform student services functions including assist students with registration questions/processes; add/drop procedures, graduation information and basic records related questions.

Job Requirements:

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and two years of responsible work experience.
  • Strong commitment and excellence in customer service
  • Excellence in time management and the ability to meet deadlines
  • Excellent professional written and oral communication skills
  • Tolerance of ambiguity, flexibility and a sense of humor are essential
  • The ability to work as a team member as well as the confidence to work independently is expected

Preferred qualifications:

  • Higher Education office experience
  • Experience with Banner or other comprehensive student financial or billing information system
  • Experience in billing, accounts receivable and collections
  • Demonstrated technical aptitude and analytical skills
