The Company:

Our client is part of a global network of companies manufacturing thermoplastic compounds from sites around the world. The company has exciting growth plans to further develop its European presence and the Product Development Manager is a crucial role to help the business fulfill these ambitious objectives. The Role:

* Develop new materials and processes to meet market requirements and ensure technical and commercial competitiveness

* Support in trials for production scale-up of new products

* Support Production department in optimising the compounding process to maximise manufacturing efficiency, product quality and performance whilst minimising waste

* Provide technical support to customers; advice on component design, tool design, material selection and processing (injection moulding)

* Generate material data and give Technical presentations to customers

* Identify business opportunities at new and existing customers

* Manage and interpret customer requirements and provide solutions to meet or exceed their needs

* Assist Purchasing department in the procurement of raw materials to optimise margin, product quality and product performance

* Promote safe working environment

* Contribute to advice on safe handling of raw materials and finished goods in compliance with health and safety requirements

* Help plan and organise targeted improvements in the facilities & equipment within the Technical and Process laboratories

* Provide product training to employees and customers

* Ability to communicate to customers' suppliers and employees at all levels.

Person Profile:

* Degree in a scientific discipline preferably with a bias towards materials or polymers

* Experience of working in a technical role within the plastics industry, preferably thermoplastics/ rubber compounding.

* Specific knowledge of injection moulding applications and of formulating compounds

* Able to demonstrate good technical knowledge combined with proven expertise in technical service

* Experience of the automotive would be an advantage

* Experience of Quality Management Systems - ISO 9001:2000

* Results driven - able to meet and exceed project timescales and targets

* Team player, but with ability to work on own

* Good computer skills and knowledge of ERP systems
