  • The Network Engineer is responsible for supporting and maintaining the OFS corporate network as directed by the Infrastructure manager and in accordance with IT policies and procedures.
  • The network engineer will lead on the management of the full network life cycle ensuring that it is fit for purpose and secure at all times and continually improved.

Description

  • The Network Engineer will perforn day to day operational activities.
  • Performing backups in accordance with the approved backup policy.
  • Ensuring that scheduled jobs are performed as expected.
  • Installing standard equipment into network cabinets/rooms.
  • Overseeing equipment provision in the managed data centre.
  • Making sure the network is proactively maintained and managed ensuring high network availability to support all IT services, meeting or exceeding agreed service levels.
  • Highly secure and resilient network design compliant with ISMS policy and other industry standards and best practice.
  • Integrate and test components, systems and their interfaces to create operational services.
  • making sure relevant assurance reporting is in place to provide corporate confidence in the delivery of core IT function eg capacity planning, firmware patching status etc.
  • Risks identified and managed/treated appropriately.
  • Supports, designs and implements the following network technologies: LAN, WAN, wifi, data-centre LAN, SD networks, telephony, mobile solutions infrastructure, unified comms, network management solutions, network-specific security and remote access technologies and approaches.
  • Core network capability provided balancing functionality with value for money.
  • Research new technologies and solutions, and ensure appropriate levels of assurance.
  • Plan, direct and coordinate activities, engaging with other stakeholders to manage and implement a programme.
  • Agree service level agreements (SLAs) and engage with third-party vendors.
  • Coach and mentor where appropriate.
  • Collaborate with engineers to make sure systems are practically designed.

Profile

  • The role holder will typically have significant experience of network design and implementation at enterprise level and be familiar with most aspects of IT infrastructure.
  • They will also have a solid understanding of implementing and managing all security aspects of networking.
  • Personable and professional, they will need to have a passion for technology and be keen to take the initiative in using IT to solve business problems.
  • Have a deep understanding of the technical concepts required in the role and can explain how these fit into the wider technical landscape.
  • Have the ability to take ownership of problems and proactively resolves technical problems, ensuring that technical solutions continue to meet business requirements. Takes full accountability for actions taken and decisions made.
  • Able to maintain the security, confidentiality and integrity of information systems through compliance with relevant legislation and regulations. Designs, implements and operates controls and management strategies to allow this.
  • Maintains focus on the whole life of service delivery - designs, develops, delivers and operates.
  • Ensures that a set of IT products, suppliers and vendors come together to deliver an IT service.

Job Offer

  • Salary £48402 - £53685.
  • Office based in Bristol.
  • Flexible working: OFS find an arrangement that works for everyone and many employees work flexibly.
  • Holiday allowance is 25 days per year and rises to 30 after 5 years service.
