Job overview:

We require a motivated Mechanical Design Engineer that can take complete ownership of a project from concept to completion. Someone who can work autonomously without supervision and has a self-starter mindset. You will be working on a variety of projects spanning various sectors.

Role:

* Take a brief/meet the client

* Carry out site/dilapidation surveys

* Design the HVAC, hot and cold water and above ground drainage using Hevacomp and other industry design tools

* Produce/amend a specification

* Produce a tender cost summary, issue to tender, assist with the tender returns and run the project on site

* Liaise with the client/design team and contractors

* Use of 2D AutoCAD essential and 3D BIM useful

* Ensure that design takes full regard of all health and safety requirements.

* Reduce waste to a minimum from all activities.

* Ensure that designs take account of environmental issues.

* Produce mechanical design layouts which are cost effective, meet the requirements of the specification and which can be purchased, installed and commissioned effectively.

* Ensure that standard practices are utilised wherever possible.

* Monitor design costs and provide design services appropriate to the allowance available.

* Produce monthly reports.

* Produce estimates and feedback for Proposals department.

* Assist with updating procedures and processes.

* Co-ordinate designs with all other disciplines internal and external to our client to ensure that all design elements are fully integrated.

* Maintain files and records throughout the duration of contracts.

* Provide services which focus on customer satisfaction.

* Recognise that satisfying the customer is the key to achieving other objectives, and that customers include everyone receiving benefit from their processes, whether end users or other departments within the company.

Qualifications / Experience:

* You’ll have worked in a similar role previously and have the proven ability to work effectively as part of a team.

* You will have 5 – 10 years’ experience

* You will have experience of working within a M&E contractor

* You are organised and methodical in your approach to managing your tasks and priorities, you strive to meet deadlines and have a close appreciation of the commercial factors which affect design solutions.

* Collaborative in nature, you’ll be able to empathise with your clients’ needs and utilise excellent communication skills, both in writing and verbally, with internal and external stakeholders. You’re used to using your initiative to overcome challenges and have a positive, can-do attitude.

* HNC / HND level minimum, ideally degree qualified

* Chartered Engineer status an advantage but not essential

* Computer literate with working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite applications
