Postdoctoral or Staff Scientist Opportunity
Posted on Aug 1, 2022 by Boston Children's Hospital
Highly motivated and committed recent PhD molecular biologist, chemical biologist, or protein/structural biologist sought for challenging research aimed at discovering and advancing small molecules that regulate abundance of a target protein of interest (POI). Specifically, we have identified the central repressors of fetal hemoglobin (HbF) in developing human red cells and are studying the detailed mechanisms of HbF repression and reactivation. We are using various approaches to identify small molecules that bind to and modulate the steady-state level of the POI. The project is multidisciplinary, encompasses molecular biology, structural biology, and chemical biology, and has enormous therapeutic opportunities, including potential collaboration with pharmaceutical partners.
The project is based in the laboratory of Professor Stuart H. Orkin at Boston Children s Hospital, Harvard Medical School and Howard Hughes Medical Institute. The laboratory has made seminal discoveries in molecular genetics and transcriptional control in hematopoietic cells. We employ a wide array of approaches, including basic molecular biology, protein chemistry, and animal studies. The laboratory has a long track record of training, and many graduates have gone on to successful careers in academia and biotechnology.
Successful candidates must be willing to work within a collaborative environment and maintain the highest professional and ethical standards. Level of the appointment will be determined by depth of experience and record of accomplishment.
