Join our Submarines Engineering team, and you could be developing innovative solutions as part of the design and manufacture of the next generation of naval nuclear propulsion plants. Or you could support the plant through its lifecycle, keeping the nation's nuclear submarine fleet at sea. Controls Engineering focuses on the measurement and control of wider engineering systems.
Our graduate development programme is designed to give you an immersive, hands-on experience. You'll be working on live projects, learning from some of the most highly respected professionals in the nuclear industry, and receiving first-class training and support. You'll be exposed to the entire engineering lifecycle, solving problems and designing integrated systems for optimal cost. As you develop, the challenges will increase in complexity and so will your responsibility.
You'll get varied experience across the breadth of our Submarines business. While operating primarily out of our main site in Derby, you could also have placements that include supporting the Astute and Dreadnought class build programmes at Barrow-in-Furness; conducting maintenance on the fleet at the Faslane or Devonport dockyards; and learning about the wider industry via our Civil Nuclear business. From this foundation, you can choose to become a technical specialist, or to broaden your skill base further to become a technical leader.
What you'll need
You'll need at least a 2:1 (or equivalent) in a relevant subject such as Electronics, Electrical, Software or Computer/Control Systems Engineering, or Computer Science. Excellent communication skills, plenty of initiative and an inquisitive, resourceful approach are important and you should be flexible in terms of where you are based as this is a rotational programme.
The nature of our work means we're unable to employ anyone who doesn't have the legal right to live and work in the UK, and if you've spent more than three months outside of the UK in the last five years (e.g. travelling, working, living), we might not be able to employ you. This role is subject to the full UK Security Check Clearance issued by the United Kingdom Security Vetting.
