Associates in this business [the Edge] will reimagine and co-create a customer back experience designed to establish a trusting relationship with seniors to help them achieve their best health. [The Edge] will operate independently, with distinct leadership and governance. With a 'startup-like' mentality and the enthusiastic support and backing of Humana and its board, the initial leadership team will play a critical role in building the new business and changing the healthcare industry from managing transactions to supporting a member's whole health. The Associate VP, Software Engineering will operate as a member of the [The Edge] technology leadership team reporting to the Chief Technology Officer. The AVP, Software Engineering contributes to team and enterprise goals as a people leader responsible for driving results, shaping culture, growing engineering talent, and operating beyond organizational and enterprise boundaries to deliver cutting edge solutions. The AVP, Software Engineering actively manages agile delivery teams, responsible for coding cloud native software solutions based on design blueprints developed in collaboration with the product development and architecture teams. To successfully execute the role of AVP, Software Engineering requires an in-depth understanding of how organization capabilities interrelate across segments and/or enterprise-wide; this includes co-development of products with the Digital Health & Analytics, Enterprise Architecture and other enterprise domain segments. Responsibilities The Associate VP, Software Engineering will recruit and lead a dynamic team of engineers, from the ground up, cloud native software using modern agile and DevOps practices. The AVP, Software Engineering will be responsible for developing a tooling strategy for source code management, collaboration and quality assurance. Decisions are typically related to intradepartmental coordination, development and implementation of strategic plans, and business outcomes, and ensuring that solutions are built to scale and are extensible to adaptable to a dynamic business environment. Required Qualifications: * Technology professional with 15+ years of software engineering and management experience, with proven track record managing software delivery, engineering teams, and/or enterprise systems. * Deep understanding of cloud computing and how SaaS, PaaS and IaaS solutions can accelerate innovation and delivery, while generating cost efficiencies. * Undergraduate degree in related discipline (e.g. Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Information Technology). * Strong technology acumen, relentless technical curiosity, and a "why not" attitude. * Experience working and/or managing within an environment with a "startup" culture using agile, lean, DevOps, and DataOps delivery practices and methodologies. Role Essentials: * Digital leadership skills - capable of empowering and leading engineering teams to meet dynamic business needs; leveraging modern technologies to create solutions that are that are simple and engaging to consumers. * In-depth knowledge of public cloud computing architectures and services. Proficient in the use of cloud native technologies, cloud cybersecurity, and implementation patterns to lower costs, improve speed to market, increase efficiency, and enable innovation. * Extensive experience presenting to and collaborating with senior executives. * Proficient at articulating key messages effectively, and guiding IT leaders and business partners on key concepts and strategies for enabling technology innovation. * Skillful in collaboration and diplomacy to ensure effective working relationships, build consensus across matrixed teams and co-development cross-enterprise products. * Experience leveraging modern technologies and architecture to increase velocity and decrease cost of solution delivery; including cloud-based technologies, microservices architecture, and streaming analytics. * Building collaborative relationships with team members, fostering a productive team environment, and coaching staff with timely meaningful feedback Preferred Qualifications: * MBA or Master's in Comp. Sci. or MIS degree preferred * Healthcare domain experience including delivering products or solutions for payers, providers and/or consumers * Professional Certifications in public cloud technologies and/or solution architecture Reporting Relationship: This area is under the leadership of the Chief Technology Officer of [The Edge].
