We have an exciting opportunity for an innovative Infrastructure Architect to join our technology team.

In this role, you'll lead the design effort and guide the continuous improvement of our cloud infrastructure platform to enable Cancer Research UK to become the most adaptive, resilient and innovative organisation it can be. Coaching and working with the team is important in the role, and we'll be asking you to empower colleagues, through guiding and coaching, to create and operate an adaptive, robust and mature cloud infrastructure platform.

Here at CRUK we are passionate about maintaining our market leading position in the field, and we're looking for an Infrastructure Architect to enable CRUK to lead the way in cloud architecture.

What will I be doing?

We need an experienced individual to…

  • Define, through collaboration with colleagues:
    • the infrastructure platforms requirements and architecture
    • the right technologies to deliver the architecture
    • processes and tools that will automate the management of the platform
  • Manage the standards, patterns and practices that relate to "infrastructure platform".
  • Provide consultancy and support to delivery teams
  • Lead and define an effective governance and assurance framework for the management and use of the infrastructure platforms
  • Contribute to the CRUK body of architecture knowledge
  • Provide guidance and advice to engineering teams responsible for the creation and maintenance of the platform

What are we looking for?

To join us in this fast-paced role you will need to have...

  • Ability to design resilient and cost-effective infrastructure in a public cloud (IAAS + PAAS + SAAS) or hybrid (On premise and cloud) environment
  • Practical considerations for enterprise usage of public IAAS based on first-hand experience
  • Strong knowledge of leading cloud providers (IAAS and PAAS)
  • Ability to design the automation of the creation and management of infrastructure
  • Ability to secure IAAS and hybrid architectures and manage information security risks
  • Ability to vary communication approach based on the needs of the people being communicated with across a range of levels

We would also love for you to have experience of "site reliability engineering" practices and how to implement them, as well as experience of creating private cloud environments using virtualisation technologies (e.g. VMware vCloud). Equally, if you've created enterprise architecture frameworks and modelling notations (TOGAF, Archimate) then we'd love to receive an application from you.

What's in it for me?

  • 25 days annual leave a year plus public holidays
  • Excellent work life balance
  • Opportunity to work on exciting technology platforms
  • A range of generous rewards and benefits via our Rewards platform

If you can do all this and more, you'll enjoy a great career as we work hard together to beat cancer.
