Alongside this, the borough benefits from the amazingly rich history of East London and an abundance of heritage assets such as the Tower of London, Island Gardens and Victoria Park.

Tower Hamlets will see the most significant increase in population and jobs in the country over the next two decades. In a borough that is growing and changing so quickly, a planned and coordinated approach to delivering the right type of housing, infrastructure and placemaking is vital. To this end, the Council has an ambitious affordable housing programme and are planning for more health facilities, increasing primary and secondary school places and improving green spaces, transport connections, community facilities and other elements of the borough's infrastructure.

The Role

Recognising the importance of infrastructure, the Council has an extensive Infrastructure Planning Team, which you will lead and manage. The team are a core planning function with expertise on infrastructure planning, CIL and S106, but that is not the half of it. The team are breaking new ground and establishing infrastructure planning at the heart of great place making, and spatial planning and delivery.

With the aim of enabling the planning, funding, development and delivery of infrastructure, we are utilising data and technical knowledge as well as seeking out new and innovative ways, with a wide range of partners, to make sure the Council delivers the right infrastructure, in the right place, at the right time. You will be leading a wide and varied work programme, focused on delivering high quality infrastructure outcomes.

Working closely with the Infrastructure Planning Manager and Development Viability Team Leader, you will help set the agenda for the future of Infrastructure Planning. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced planner to get involved and develop their career at the forefront of a new and developing part of planning. The position offers the successful applicant with a high profile role that engages with major developers, strategic partners, senior managers and members of the Council.
