Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy History and Social Science Faculty - American History - Fall 2019 Institution Type: Preparatory School Location: Illinois, United States Position: Tenure Track Faculty The History Department at the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy is seeking an instructor to teach university level surveys and seminars in American History to talented high school students. The selected candidate will be responsible for curriculum delivery as well as ongoing development and revision of existing classes. Candidates for the position should have at least a Master's Degree in History or a related field (PhD preferred). Specializations in History of any STEM-related topic preferred. The successful candidate must be able to teach courses in American History and potentially World in the 20th Century. This position fulfills the requirement for DFI (Diversifying Higher Education Faculty in Illinois) Fellows following completion of their academic program. The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to: * Teaching a range of History courses, primarily American History * Guiding and tutoring students outside of class * Participating in the department's curriculum and assessment development work * Close collaboration with colleagues when teaching the same course and when working on departmental priorities * Participating in all department and faculty meetings, faculty development programs, and community development days * Participating in non-teaching activities that support the department's and Academy's programs * Participating in external professional organizations Skills and Experience: The required skills and experience for this position include: * A minimum of a Master's degree in American History * Effective communication with students, staff, and parents * Active participation in a collaborative team environment * Engagement in reflective professional practice * Excellent interpersonal skills for working in a team environment with the ability to function diplomatically and communicate effectively with colleagues, administrators, students, parents, and the public * An appreciation and understanding of working with diverse populations Preferred Qualifications: * Ph.D. * Teaching experience, collegiate and/or high school * Specializations in History of any STEM-related topic(s) * Able to teach World in the 20th Century * Experience in curriculum design Salary and Benefits: Salary and benefits are commensurate with training and experience expected at this level of employment.
