Student Support Mentor - Bournemouth & Poole - Permanent - Full Time - Term Time Only - £9.63 per hour

We are looking for someone who is a pro-active and organised individual who can communicate effectively with students, tutors and stakeholders on an individual and group setting. Bournemouth and Poole are looking for a Student Support Mentor who will be responsible for monitoring and supporting students who are considered to be at risk, vulnerable or disengaged. You will meet with individuals and groups of students to ensure that they are supported and appropriately referred to internal and external support such as welfare and mental health support.
You will liaise closely with course and personal tutors over student progress and personal development, recording all information / interactions on pro-monitor, supporting and making internal referrals as required. You will also contribute to and participate in awareness campaigns, education programmes aimed at promoting safeguarding, wellbeing and personal development.
Additionally, you will participate in The College's appraisal process and undertake any training that may be appropriate and attend departmental, directorate and curriculum team and support meetings when necessary.
Key responsibilities, skills and attitudes
- Computer literate with knowledge of different applications and databases
- Experience working with young people
- Experience working with social care and external agencies (desirable)
- Strong communicator
- Enthusiastic, engaging and pro-active individual
- Ability to identify situations that need appropriate action taken
- Ability to work individually as well as part of a team
- Ability to remain calm under pressure
- Empathetic, understanding and a good-listener
- Relevant qualification (level 3 or above)
- Qualification in English and Maths (level 2 or above)
- Flexibility in terms of working location with ability to travel between college sites
