Purpose of the Post
The Religious Worker will work under the instructions of the Accounts Department and Head of Fundraising to provide Islamic religious and spiritual guidance to the Muslim community on Charitable Giving. The religious worker will be able to motivate and engage donors, staff and volunteers in collaboration with all departments of the Islamic Help.
To engage and educate the congregation in obligatory Islamic charitable giving.
To participate in developing the Islamic Help's donation strategies to ensure that they comply with religious requirements.
To provide counselling guidance according to the Islamic law on charitable giving.
To participate in fundraising activities such as live appeals, mosque collections and events highlighting the religious values in specific giving particularly Zakat, Sadqah, Qurbani, Lillah, Fitranah etc.
To participate and develop community activities that foster good relations with the congregation and activities that foster good interfaith and public relations.
To work collaboratively with all internal teams, departments and donors and external agencies.
To ensure the consistent application of the Islamic Help's standards and policies as they apply to the conduct of this role.
Any other duties commensurate with the accountabilities of the post
Skills, Qualification and Experience Needed
QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING
Educated to GCSE level in Islamic Studies or equivalent
Experience of working with charities, Islamic institutions, community groups etc
Experience of working as a team with religious leaders and workers
Comprehensive understanding of Sunni Sufi practices and its practical application in everyday life
Experience of working with young people
Experience of maintaining and managing own workload
Experience of working for an NGO
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
Good written and verbal communication skills in English;
Written or verbal communication in English and Urdu (plus additional languages such as Bengali, Arabic, Punjabi, Mirpuri desirable)
IT literate with knowledge of Microsoft applications and the ability to learn to use new programmes
Positive approach to problem solving;
Knowledge of office systems and practice
Some knowledge of how NGOs respond to emergencies and disasters;
Knowledge of Islamic law particularly with regards to charitable giving
Ability to work on own initiative
Ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines and adapt to change.
