Even these days, over one hundred years after the start of Fred Astaire's vaudeville and Broadway career, one still can't turn on the TV or radio, or open a newspaper, magazine, or website without hearing mention of Mr. Fred Astaire and his dancing legacy. When people think of a dancing legend, Fred Astaire is the first that comes to mind, and he certainly left a lasting impact on the world.
Our great dance heritage began when Mr. Fred Astaire wanted to establish a chain of studios under his name to make sure that his dance techniques would be preserved and passed onto the public. In 1947, he co-founded our company with studio executive Charles L. Casanave, Jr. With this exciting venture, Fred Astaire brought his immense talent out of Hollywood and onto the dance floors of America, and the world, and on March 7, 1947 the first Fred Astaire Studio opened at 487 Park Avenue in New York City.
Today, there are over 170 Fred Astaire Franchised Dance Studios located in cities throughout North America and internationally. Collectively, they maintain the highest standards of excellence through our National Dance Board and Fred Astaire Franchised Dance Studios curriculum certification.
The teaching philosophy at every Fred Astaire Dance studio is simple and straightforward: learning how to ballroom dance is always fun! Our dance instructors hail from all over the world. They are gifted educators, many have Fine Arts degrees and are actively-competing, award-winning professional dancers. And all have completed the rigorous work required to become certified in the Fred Astaire Curriculum, a teaching method unique to our organization.
Our dance curriculum covers the full range of ballroom dance - American, Latin-American, International Style, Ballroom Style and Exhibition/Theater Arts dances. Our dance curriculum is continuously reviewed by world-famous champions and registered judges on the Fred Astaire National Dance Board, to ensure only the finest, most up-to-date programs for our students.
Our studio lesson philosophy includes Private Lessons, Group Lessons and Practice Parties to ensure that students learn as much as possible, in the shortest amount of time, with the most retention, and the most FUN! Our Trophy System gives students an easy way to track their progress and stay motivated, while they enjoy dancing. And regional, national and international Pro-Am dance competitions give students inspiring opportunities to compete, travel and hone their dancing skills in a supportive and exciting environment.
Although Mr. Astaire is no longer with us in person, our dance studios have produced a wealth of amateur and professional dancers who are the living embodiment of his style and grace. And we have had the honor & privilege of improving the lives of our students, staff and everyone who is associated with our company, through the joy of lifelong dancing.
