Trainee Solicitor - Graduate scheme
Posted on Dec 12, 2018 by Covington & Burling LLP
As a trainee at Covington you will benefit from a tailored programme with exposure to meaningful work under the supportive guidance of a Senior Lawyer, Associates, Training Principal and the Professional Development team.
The Covington experience
During your two year contract you will undertake four six month seats, two of which will be within our core practice areas of Corporate and Dispute Resolution. You can then choose the remaining two seats from our niche practice areas of employment, project finance, life sciences regulatory, real estate and tax, and technology and media. We also offer the chance to undertake a secondment, either to our Brussels office (within the competition and antitrust practice group) or to a client. This freedom of electives allows you to drive your career and experience opportunities in the practice areas you are passionate about.
Covington hires the brightest graduates, who will become our leaders of the future. Therefore we offer comprehensive external training via the Professional Skills Course, alongside internal, practice group specific training. However, training can only take you so far, so each trainee is assigned a supervisor who will manage work flows, provide feedback and handle formal mid and end of-seat reviews. Each trainee is also assigned an associate buddy who is able to provide mentoring, coaching and advice from a more informal perspective, over a coffee or lunch throughout the training contract.
Come join us
We currently offer up to nine training contracts each year. This small intake allows trainees to build lasting relationships and receive an in-depth experience. There are regular opportunities for trainees to get together socially and there is a dedicated trainee social budget. All trainees also travel to a firm-wide integration seminar in Washington DC at the beginning of their second year.
