Head of Operations

Up to £40,000 per annum pro rata

20 - 30 hours per week



The Role

A highly valued, local organisation operating in the not-for-profit sector is looking to recruit a Head of Operations into their fantastic team based in Wrexham. The appointed candidate will line manage Finance, Facilities, HR/Volunteer, Catering and Housekeeping to maximise their full potential and guide and support each area to achieve strategic aims with approach of business and commercial acumen.


  • To report to the Chief Executive on key functions of the Charity, including financial status of target and budgets.
  • Oversee the Operational elements of the organisation through the proactive management of key functions.
  • Monitor performance and goals of each function, supporting any areas of need to active goals set.
  • Overseeing Facilities management to ensure high standard of internal and external property is maintained.
  • Developing and implementing processes to achieve continuous improvement of the functions and facilitate the smooth running of the hospice.
  • Strategically planning and delivering capital projects and spend.
  • Assisting the Chief Executive to achieve the strategic goals through departments.
  • To report to the Chief Executive and Board of Trustees as and when required.
  • To support, manage, guide and advise managers in an appropriate manner.
  • To support each area of responsibility to achieve compliance where required/necessary.
  • To carry out timely and appropriate PDR's with managers to set strategic goals and objectives for coming period of time.
  • To ensure that all staff comply with Company procedures and other instructions issued from time to time.
  • To fulfil whatever mutually agreed additional duties are deemed necessary.
  • To have sufficient knowledge of the activities and policies of the Charity to be able to answer reasonable queries from staff, volunteers and members of the public.

The Candidate

  • Previous experience of working within Operations and Finance.
  • Good IT skills - including Word and Excel.
  • Successful appointment to the role requires a clear DBS check.
  • Good motivator of teams.
  • Good communicator.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Flexible and adaptable.
  • Excellent inter-personal skills.
  • Ability to manage and prioritise workload.
  • Ability to deliver projects on time and to budget.
  • Good team player.
  • Able to work on own initiative.
  • Maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
