Maintenance / Field Service Engineer (Medical Devices, Test)

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a fast growing, innovative, high technology medical devices company, developing an advanced system for use both in the home and in medical centres that will significantly improve the quality of life of the patients involved. The product is unique and set to make a significant impact on a multi-billion dollar global market. The company now requires a hands-on engineer who has possibly previously been a Maintenance or Field Service Engineer to take on a role as a Machine Support Engineer for both the internal and external maintenance of the company's machines.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake Machine Build, Upgrade, Rework and Repair including

o Compliant with specifications, drawings, QMS procedures and safety requirements

o Machine testing and record keeping

o Accurate Quality record-keeping, including details of machine configuration and records of modifications, main

o Supporting external manufacturing partners to develop their ability to build, test, fault-find and repair machines.

  • Machine Fault-Finding

o Fault-finding and diagnostics

o Identify and report observed and/or suspected issues

o Support root cause identification

o Support triaging and issue management process for resolution of problems.

o Machine Testing (Integration, Design Verification)

o Support definition and execution of machine and sub-system tests.

  • Machine Field Support (Clinical Evaluation)

o Support field deployment of machines to sites for clinical evaluation.

o Support rectification of issues reported by users at evaluation sites.

  • Machine Management Process and Infrastructure

o Enforce ESD controls and good workshop practices

o Contribute to machine fault-finding body of knowledge

o Support metrics definition, collection and analysis.

o Support initiatives to improve and demonstrate machine reliability

o Identify opportunities to improve process effectiveness and efficiency.

o Support the continuous improvement of service process and procedures.

  • Task Management

o Low-level estimation and planning of own work

o Tracking and status reporting of own progress on assignments

Person Specification

  • Minimum HND in Engineering: HND or equivalent professional experience.
  • 5 years hands-on experience, supporting diagnosis, maintenance and repair of complex, software-controlled electromechanical products, preferably in the healthcare industry.
  • Experience of working to the requirements of a Quality Management System compliant with relevant international standards (ISO 9001 / ISO 13485)
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbally.
  • Proven ability to understand and communicate how machines work, based on

conventional engineering specifications, drawings, design descriptions.

  • Able to work with mechanical, electronic, pneumatic and fluidic technologies.
  • Able to demonstrate mechanical skills by assembly/dis-assembly of components, subsystems and machines without damage.
  • Able to demonstrate electrical/electronic skills through an ability to handle, insert and remove PCBs and associated cabling without damage.
  • Good attention to detail, able to generate and maintain formal records in accordance with Good Documentation Practice, QMS procedures and company IT processes.
