While Basketball Operations runs the league's on-court activities, other departments manage relationships with television and digital media partners, develop marketing partnerships with some of the world's most recognizable companies, oversee the licensing of NBA merchandise, and handle a wide range of responsibilities that drive the NBA's success.

The Customer Data Strategy (CDS) team is transforming the NBA by using data to connect fans to the experiences they love and to help them discover new ones. Our team is constantly iterating, solving problems, and working together to build deeper relationships with our fans.

The incumbent will be focused on deploying a Customer Relationship Marketing practice that will transform the NBA's interactions with fans, deepening engagement, driving revenue, and creating a lifetime love of the game. This person will wear many hats focusing on data strategy beginning with identifying/sizing opportunities for fan data capture, overseeing the implementation of those opportunities via marketing and partnerships, maximizing the utilization of the data by delivering engaging experiences and content, and helping to quantify the value of the data we have on our fans.


  • Work cross functionally with NY-based CDS team and the Canada and LATAM Marketing teams to ensure regional fan acquisition and engagement efforts align with global strategies and goals
  • Set baseline foundation for growing marketable base through a robust audience development and data capture strategy
    • Partner across functions and partners to implement and track results
    • Develop baseline goals and forecasts for growth
    • Develop and implement data capture standards based on market prioritization and policies
    • Identify data attributes and mechanisms for progressive profiling to enable better targeting and personalization
  • Develop and implement multi-channel fan engagement strategy
    • Customize current on-boarding journey to be reflective of market needs
    • Develop content calendar to be leveraged across multiple channels (region specific)
    • Determine key triggers, channels and product offerings for monetization
    • Evaluate the marketplace to determine the efficacy of a fan club loyalty model; determine scope and market for pilot
  • Create reporting and KPI tracking
    • Determine key measures for success
    • Conduct data attribute/known record valuation

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Customer Relationship Management, Digital Marketing, Audience Development experience
  • Very strong executor and project manager - proven track record in driving flawless execution with very strong attention to details
  • Passion for customer data and its ability to transform and drive marketing success
  • Strong partnership skills and experience working with various functional teams and markets
  • Strong communicator with right blend of intellect and influence - act as the evangelist for what this team can bring to the organization's current success
  • Working knowledge of the core elements of marketing technology (ESP, DMP, etc)
  • Fluency in Spanish a plus

Experience Needed:

  • A minimum of 5-6 years in Customer Relationship Marketing, Data Strategy and/or Customer Analytics
  • Strong project management skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Demonstrated success in evangelizing the purpose of an enterprise global team within a highly matrixed environment
  • Ability to juggle multiple priorities with many stakeholders
  • Experience supporting an International business or partners

Educational Background Required:

  • BA/BS
  • Advanced degree preferred but not necessary
