Position Description and Board Expectations:
The board and staff of the YMCA of Walla Walla are seeking a CEO who will demonstrate strong executive leadership and promote a culture of integrity, excellence, and stewardship. Qualified candidates must have an inclusive management style to engage, empower, and motivate leadership staff to lead their departments in alignment with YMCA's mission and strategic vision. The CEO must be a dynamic leader capable of developing and strengthening community partnerships by instilling confidence, credibility, and trust in the YMCA with other community leaders and donors.
The YMCA of Walla Walla launched a capital campaign in early 2018 to upgrade and expand the YMCA's facilities to better meet the needs of our community. This requires the new CEO to work in partnership with the board and development director to lead ongoing fundraising efforts through communication of the YMCA's mission-focused vision and strategic plan.
Salary Range: $95,000 - $115,000
Benefits: 10% retirement contribution from the Y, medical coverage, vacation, and other benefits per personnel policy included.

YMCA Facilities: The YMCA of Walla Walla is the only full-service health, wellness and fitness center in the Walla Walla region. With nearly 7,000 members, the YMCA enjoys a robust membership within a 60,000 square foot facility. Program growth has been exceptional over the past 4 years requiring additional program space made possible through collaborative efforts with local citizens and agencies, and other non-profits. The YMCA also owns 2+ acres of land across the street that can be used for future expansion.
Programs: Members enjoy many programs including: Aquatics, Youth & Adult Sports, Health and Wellness, fitness and group exercise classes, senior adult programs as well as preschool, teen center and after school programs. The YMCA of Walla Walla additionally provides a Community Center for Youth for at risk teenagers and young adults.
Staff: There are currently 20 full time staff and approximately 135 part time staff serving our membership with additional part time staff hired as needed for seasonal programs. Certified fitness and wellness staff provide quality services and enjoy strong connections with our members and the community.
Board: The board is currently comprised of 14 active board members. There is also a 5-member board of trustees that oversees the YMCA's endowment fund.
Financial: The YMCA of Walla Walla has an annual operating budget of approximately $3 million. The YMCA also has a building reserve fund of $1 million and an endowment fund of $3.9 million.
Community: Walla Walla is the perfect place to experience all four seasons. It has warm sunny summers, crisp yet moderate winters, and spectacular springs and falls will fill your senses with color.
Walla Walla and its neighboring town of College Place comprise a community of approximately 40,000 residents. It serves as the hub for medical, professional, and business services for Southeastern Washington and Northeastern Oregon. It is the location of the regional Veteran's Administration Medical Center and Providence St. Mary Medical Center. It is home to Whitman College and Walla Walla Community College. Walla Walla University is located in nearby College Place.
Major employers in the area include the wine industry, agricultural and local wheat growers, machinery and irrigation manufacturers, the Washington State Penitentiary, federal, state, and local governments, and area utilities. The Walla Walla valley is also home to many financial institutions including Washington State's first commercial bank and its oldest savings and loan association.
The Walla Walla valley has often been called "the next Napa Valley," and for good reason. This is a place where winemakers from around the world are coming to start the next generation of legendary wineries. Despite this growth, most wineries remain small, family-run operations. Many are drawn to the Enology and Viticulture Center operated through the Walla Walla Community College which provides educational opportunities to prospective winemakers.

Sunset Magazine named Walla Walla "Best Main Street in the West" and its wine destination of the year. Its downtown has been the recipient of the Great American Main Street award. Residents enjoy a historical western heritage as well as a vibrant art, music and downtown center with a variety of restaurants with open air seating during the springs and summers. Each year the Walla Walla Symphony and the Power House Theater provide quality programs in the community.

Minimum Qualifications for Candidates:
Key Deliverables Include:
1. Build and Manage the Staff Team. Evaluate current strengths and development opportunities of all key staff and create a plan to build unity, encourage teamwork, and foster individual staff development. Establish an individual development plan for each direct report. Hire, motivate, nuture, retain, and hold staff accountable for key objectives. Encourage the team by creating a spirit of camaraderie and sense of mission/purpose. Create a learning organization that encourages all staff members to learn, grow, and develop. Ensure adherence to YMCA policies and procedures.
Key Competencies: Team building; talent motivation; inspiring creativity and resourcefulness; and enriching YMCA culture.
2. Establish a Culture. Strengthen a culture of inclusion, integrity, character, and lifelong learning within the YMCA. We want a strong culture that exemplifies the YMCA's mission, unifies the team, encourages a member-focused approach by all staff, and promotes the YMCA's vision while living the values of honesty, respect, responsibility, caring, and empowering others to succeed.

3. Implement a Strategic Plan. Have the ability to work effectively with the board of directors and key staff to update and execute the strategic plan. This requires an ongoing assessment to address opportunities and challenges related to the community's needs. Lead staff in the development and implementation of goals through an annual operating plan. The YMCA is currently in the middle of a capital campaign to expand its facilities. The CEO must have experience with capital projects and campaigns, and plan to take leadership of this project in partnership with the board.

4. Improve Operating Performance and Budget Management. Establish a process to create, implement, and monitor a budget following accepted business practices. Use a high level of financial analysis to forecast financial trends, growth, and stability while consistently leading the organization to balance operations by growing earned revenue and contributions and controlling costs. Empower and guide staff leaders on the successful financial operation of their areas of responsibility. Monitor the budget closely to address competition that may impact membership, facility needs, and anticipate impact on revenue and expenses.
