Under direction, the Unit Supervisor coordinates and supervises the program and staff of an assigned unit within the residential program at the Cleveland Christian Home.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Education, Training, and/or Experience:

  • A Bachelor's degree;
  • A minimum of four (4) years experience in a residential/group home setting and A minimum of two (2) years supervisory experience; and/or
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

2. Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Must have and maintain a valid Ohio Driver's License, appropriate driving record and appropriate insurance License, Ohio Driver's all times (as required by agency policy and/or insurance carriers)
  • Successful completion of all required pre-hire tests and proof of current TB test upon hire

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Coordinates and supervises the personnel and the program of an assigned residential treatment unit including:

  • Providing care, support, attention and a positive, therapeutic atmosphere to all children in the assigned unit
  • Maintaining consistent, firm and fair relationships with all children
  • Serving as an appropriate, positive role-model
  • Ensuing the management of the physical needs of the children including health, hygiene, and physical comfort (food/clothing/shelter)

2. Provides physical and emotional security for the children through intervention, correction and re-direction of negative behavior

3. Ensures the whereabouts and activities of each assigned child at all times while on duty

4. Ensures implementation of the individual treatment plan, agency philosophy and policies

  • Delegates and assigns responsibilities to Child Care Workers
  • Ensures appropriate monitoring of children's money accounts, pay jobs, damages etc.

5. Coordinates the use of facilities and resources to provide structured group and support services to assigned clients

6. Implements goal-directed groups addressing, but not limited to:

  • Practical living skills
  • Social skills
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Anger-management and conflict resolution
  • Self-esteem building

7. Serves as an integral member of the treatment team:

  • Coordinates related materials for meetings
  • Attends all staffing, conferences or meetings pertaining to assigned unit

8. Prepares formal and informal reports on assigned children or program issues, as required

9. Leads in the planning, supervision and provision of therapeutic and recreational activities.

10. Transports children as necessary including, but not limited to medical appointments, activities, school

11. Maintains current inventory and/or awareness of all supplies, equipment and furnishings

12. Ensures effective coordination and exchange of information with staff and other provider/network agency programs

13. Responds to crisis situations throughout agency including residents, staff and/or visitors

14. Establishes, approves and reviews systems, program elements and all department documentation

  • Coordinates, approves and reviews all activity plans and programs

15. Ensures compliance with agency and/or other regulatory standards and requirements including licensure and accreditation rules

16. Consults regularly with Residential Coordinator regarding client care issues, policies, procedures, goals, philosophy, etc.

17. Assists with interviewing candidates for positions when necessary

18. Ensures that employees receive orientation; trains employees in job duties, provides individual supervision, regularly

19. Monitors the work of employees and ensures compliance with policies and procedures; recommends and administers disciplinary action as necessary

20. Reviews time sheets, authorizes overtime and leave requests

21. Ensures appropriate staff coverage through scheduling, assigning replacements or filling-in as necessary

22. Assists with evaluating employee performance

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES & PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Knowledge and support of agency mission, goals, policies and procedures*
  • Knowledge of applicable program rules, regulations and standards, including ethical professional practice*
  • Knowledge of ODJFS and OhioMHAS rules, regulations, functions, procedures, organization and policies impacting the residential program and services
  • Knowledge of therapeutic milieu philosophy, techniques and quality standards
  • Knowledge of methods/techniques for intervention, correction and re-direction of negative behavior
  • Knowledge of the physical and emotional needs of children including health, hygiene, consistency, supervision and recreation
  • Basic knowledge of environmental and familial factors impacting growth, development and learning
  • Knowledge of applicable forms/documentation
  • Knowledge of supervisory methods and techniques
  • Ability to provide a positive, therapeutic and safe environment for children
  • Ability to perform physical restraints safely and correctly
  • Ability to establish a rapport with clients and their families
  • Ability to respond in crisis situations
  • Ability to maintain appropriate and required confidentiality ensuring the integrity of sensitive information (written and/or verbal)
  • Ability to identify qualified employees and maintain a positive work environment for employees
  • Ability to establish performance standards and improve employee performance with training, coaching and/or discipline
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work, engage in a variety of tasks and consistently meet deadlines
  • Ability to effectively resolve and/or respond to inquiries, complaints and/or conflicts
