Business Development Manager - Power & Energy Infrastructure

This is a key role with a leading distributed energy and private networks business who s mission is to become a leading low-carbon localised smart energy infrastructure solution provider in the UK and Ireland.

You will have a broad understanding of distributed energy systems, including some of the following areas: electricity networks, building services, solar PV, and electric vehicles. You will also have an appreciation of battery storage, district heating and smart system approaches.

The role and responsibilities

The BDM is important role to drive forward company s business relationships and solutions in the regeneration and development markets for industrial, commercial, logistics, data centres and mixed-use developments.

Your primary focus will be on building a strong qualified pipeline and executing to close contracts across multiple targets, initially landing electricity networks (incl. private and IDNO) related pursuits. Experience in these markets and with a proven track record in solution selling these propositions is a key requirement.

The role will report into the Business Development Lead in the regeneration and development team but will work with and will report on a daily basis through company s matrix structure across sector teams led by the proposition Sector Directors.

This role has responsibility for developing a robust pipeline across the target markets, and as such will carry an annual target based on project progression and total contract value.

You will be responsible for identifying opportunities, managing client and wider stakeholder relationships and closing deals, supporting bid and development teams to secure contracts and partnerships with targeted public and private sector organisations, developers, and investors. You will be required to build and communicate critical customer insights into formal bid processes and to inform on partnership and sales strategies, for example.

The role will develop a wide and close network of clients along with other stakeholder relationships to ensure awareness and influence on market and to continuously adapt propositions to suit both.
The role will be the main client interface throughout the proposition phase.

You ll have critical input and oversight to the supporting development teams to ensure that propositions/bids are delivered on time and positions taken during negotiation are signed off by the business.

Essential requirements

To be considered for this role, we'd love you to have:

Proven track record with a strong and relevant experience in the energy infrastructure sector and operating in one or several of the target markets
Proven experience securing business with electricity networks and/or energy infrastructure solutions in the regeneration and development market
In depth knowledge and technical understanding of high and low voltage electricity networks, up to 132kV and IDNO electricity distribution networks
Highly experienced networker and relationship manager - connected and able to build and manage diverse relationships with a wide group of stakeholders from C-suite and through the organization
Politically aware and can demonstrate influencing a wide stakeholder group
Excellent understanding of relevant policy frameworks as they apply to heat, energy, carbon and integrated systems
Sound judgement - with the ability to interpret, analyse and disseminate complex, sensitive information
Experience of solution / consultative selling and building bespoke value propositions with customers across a complex range of technology and solutions
Experience communicating complicated projects internally to gain approval through governance processes
Experience resource planning across a complex project to fully understand potential cost of project
Experience of building sales strategies and client engagement plans to maximise value, priorities and delivery against set targets.


Formal sales training and experience would be advantageous i.e., Challenger and/or Miller Heiman
Understanding of a range of commercial and funding structures as they apply to distributed energy or own/operate projects
Understanding of how microgrids and energy platforms operate and add value
Experience in bringing together and managing a large, complex proposition that sits across multiple areas of expertise
