The Vice President of Accounting & Financial Reporting oversees the financial reporting function for 40+ properties and corporate within a fast paced, growing casino company. The role has daily oversight of activities in the following functional areas; corporate accounting, financial reporting, technical accounting, financial systems and project (D&C) accounting. In conjunction with the Chief Accounting Officer, this position is responsible for the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements formatted for both internal and external financial reporting deliverables, inclusive of earnings release, Form 10-Qs, 10-Ks, 11-Ks, and other filing requirements. This position also assists in analyzing various financial statement schedules necessary in the monthly, quarterly and annual close/consolidation process. Additionally, this position is responsible for overseeing the accounting research and documentation regarding technical accounting matters and policies. The position also directs the various financial systems used within the accounting/finance function to record and report the company's financial information. Finally, this role manages the project accounting team as they review and record transactions related to design and construction for the organization., The following and other duties may be assigned as necessary: * Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation for the areas under this position's supervision and carries out these responsibilities in accordance with Company policies, procedures and applicable laws. * Plans, directs, and coordinates timely and accurate external financial reporting to the SEC including the preparation, review, submission and distribution of periodic financial reports, such as 10-K and 10-Q, 8K's, annual reports, and proxy statements. * Responsible for determining the impact of new accounting standards and implementation of new accounting pronouncements and/or SEC guidance that impacts the consolidated financial statements and footnotes * Plays a key role in the adoption of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Regulatory pronouncements as well as compliance with existing standards. * Responsible for internal board reports and any ad hoc reports requested by management. * Responsible for assisting in the management of the organization's external audit. * Responsible for preparing, monitoring and adhering to budgets and ensuring compliance to departmental budget initiatives. Reports budget concerns / deviations to the Executive Management. * Performs detailed reviews of periodic financial statements and supporting schedules. Makes recommendations for improvement. * Assists in the development of timely and accurate monthly financial reporting packages. * Prepares reports which summarize and forecast company business activity and financial position in areas of income, expenses, and earnings based on past, present, and expected operations. * Provides management with timely reviews of organization's financial status and progress in its various programs and activities. * Prepares reports required by regulatory agencies. * Partners with the EVP & CFO and investor relations to provide information for earnings press releases and investor/analyst queries. * Coordinates and liaising with auditors as part of the financial reporting processes. * Ensures SOX compliance with respect to financial reporting processes. * Fosters proactive working relationships with cross-functional departments (Legal, Finance, FP&A, Accounting, Tax etc.) to ensure timely and accurate receipt of information required for financial reporting. * Provides timely and accurate information to resolve reporting-related queries from various cross-functional departments. * Oversees performance and documentation of technical accounting research and analysis of technically complex transactions and non-routine accounting matters. * Continuously maintains knowledge and understanding of rules and regulations as promulgated by, among other governing bodies, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Internal Revenue Service, the State Department of Revenue, the State Gaming Commission. * Oversees evaluation and reporting of project costs related to design and construction. * Oversees financial/accounting systems and periodically reviews system life to determine upgrade needs. * Provides oversight and standardization for financial reporting at all locations. * Works with business partners to evaluate new software initiatives impacting the finance and accounting organization. Assist in determining if initiatives align with overall strategic architecture for the company. * Works closely with CAO on special projects and in establishing financial policies and procedures for the Company. * Enthusiastically supports, actively promotes, and demonstrates superior customer service in accordance with department and company standards and programs. Ensures customer service standards are followed by all team members and addresses issues as they arise. * Maintains strict confidentiality in all departmental and company matters. * Responsible for ensuring the compliance with all regulatory compliance within area of responsibility and reporting potential issues to Executive Management. * Bachelor's Degree (B.A./B.S.) from a four-year college or university in Accounting or Finance; seven or more years of experience in financial reporting and accounting with progressively more responsible positions; or equivalent combination of education and experience. CPA license required and MBA preferred. Must have at least three years of public accounting experience. Knowledge of XBRL reporting requirements highly preferred. * Must have comprehensive knowledge SEC reporting standards and requirements, along with US GAAP. * Must have excellent communication skills, verbal and written. * Must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to learn new processes and systems quickly. * Must be proficient in Microsoft applications (Excel, Word, and Outlook). * Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. * Ability to work independently, identify problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. * Ability to write reports and business correspondence. * Must have excellent organizational skills and be detailed oriented. * Must have the ability to lead teams and have project management experience. * Must have the ability to present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, employees, and guests. * Must have the ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions and percentages. * Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. * Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors. * Must have the ability to interact with guests, staff and colleagues and resolve problems and conflicts in a diplomatic and tactful manner.
