1. Psychiatrist Duties:
a) Psychiatrist provides treatment for veterans with general, moderate, to severe psychiatric disorders. May be called to provide services in the Outpatient clinic, Acute Psychiatry Unit, CLC (Nursing Home)/BRU (Behavioral Recovery Unit), Dom, or Medical floor clinic areas. Could possibly be asked to cover telemental health (TMed) psychiatric services if staff providers are unavailable. TMED definition- when the provider sits at the Des Moines VA and provides services over the TMED unit to a client sitting at another site. Provider would be expected to do the competencies that are expected when doing TMED duties, if that situation occurs. They will be required to do Triage duties or walkin mental health emergencies. They may be called upon to physically go to inpatient medical wards for consults daily. Note: the psychiatrist will not cover all areas in one day. This is just to inform candidates of what areas patients could be seen.
b) Psychiatrist must be skilled in Psychopharmacology. They must be able to provide a comprehensive clinical summary/psychiatric summary and daily progress notes. Contractor shall document patient care in the patient chart via the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS). Training regarding the use of this system will be provided by the VA. All notes must be completed and signed within 24 hours. Psychiatrist will be responsible for correcting or completing all Encounters associated with a patient visit. All documentation will be completed in accordance with VA policy and procedures.
c) Coverage of clinics may vary but primary responsibility will be to provide coverage to the Outpatient Clinic Monday Friday 0 with unpaid 30 minute break/lunch. Estimates of patients to be seen in one day for the various areas are:
Des Moines Outpatient Clinic - Approximately 6 13 Veterans
CLC Varies with census; unit has 28 beds. Estimated number of patients to be seen
per day is 10-13.
BRU Varies with census; unit has 23 beds. Estimated patients to be seen per day is 10-13
Acute Unit Varies with census but acute unit has 10 beds.
Dom Varies with census; approximately 6 13 Veterans.
TMED telemental health would vary with need. Approximately same as OP clinic above.
Note: the psychiatrist will not cover all areas in one day. This is just to estimate of how many patients could be seen in these areas per day.
d) Psychiatrist must comply with the Joint Commission and the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), and other regulatory agencies. Must participate in clinical reviews or other similar educational programs conducted by the VA or the Medical Staff, necessary to assist in ma
