Since it opened in 1948, Arconic's Davenport, Iowa aluminum facility has been at the forefront of American manufacturing. Through continued modernization, including a $500 million investment over the past decade alone, Davenport has maintained its position as the world's premier aerospace supply plant and is today the hub of Alcoa's $3 billion aerospace business.

The Senior Staff Mechanical Engineer will provide support and leadership to plantwide manufacturing and process areas. The Senior Staff Mechanical Engineer will lead major capital projects and process improvement efforts across Davenport Works and Satellite locations. Due to the 24/7 manufacturing environment, working off-shift hours and/or weekends to support operations is expected although not always required.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage large capital projects up to and in excess of $1MM in value, throughout Davenport and Satellite locations. Project management through funds approval and project completion.
  • Expert level knowledge of hydraulics, hydraulic systems, components and controls.
  • Manage complex capital projects, solve difficult equipment and process problems for Davenport and Satellite locations.
  • Advise/counsel on failure analysis; Participate in and lead problem solving teams, identification of root cause and solutions. Organize support from other resources.
  • Provide technical direction, leadership and review for large capital projects.
  • Relied upon by plant resources for advice, direction, and estimates for capital and process solutions.
  • Provide leadership, technical direction, installation support, commissioning support for execution of major capital projects and equipment outages.
  • Participate in and lead equipment development projects
  • Conduct technical assessments of individual pieces of equipment in advance of potential capital and process improvement solutions.
  • Maintain excellent working relationship with internal procurement resources, internal customers, external suppliers and plantwide resources to ensure capital project and process improvement needs are understood and met.
  • Provide knowledge base and advanced technical guidance to enable thorough understanding of the equipment and its effect on utilization, process and product quality. The successful incumbent will also provide technical solutions to recurring design, process and application problems.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution;
  • Minimum of 10 years' engineering experience;
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a manufacturing environment;
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in justifying, managing and installing large capital projects;
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience and working knowledge of manufacturing processes and principles, equipment and components to include, facilities and industrial infrastructure, cranes, electrical power systems, control systems, pneumatics, hydraulics, pumps, etc.;
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in project leadership and engineering, equipment specification, project scope development, estimating and project financial controls;
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and work with across departmental boundaries with cross functional engineering and operations teams;
  • Strong problem solving and creative thinking skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in equipment repair and replacement analysis, engineering economics, and capital project investment analysis;
  • Working knowledge of heavy industrial equipment and infrastructure;
  • Broad engineering, operations, and maintenance background
