Performs variety of routine and complex laboratory procedures under supervision using standard and specialized techniques, instrumentation and equipment on a wide variety of biological specimens to assist physician in diagnosis and treatment of patients. Exercise professional judgment in order to recognize, prioritize, and facilitate varying test requests and workload in efficient manner. Assumes responsibility and accountability for accuracy of procedures performed.1.Education and Training
*Bachelor of Science degree, including one (1) year in approved program or equivalent with MLS or MT certification/registry with an accredited recognized agency or organization (eg ASCP, NCA, AMT, etc.)
*(Note: ASCP and NCA merged effective 10/23/09 to ASCP)
One year related laboratory experience preferred
3.Other Skills, Competencies and Qualifications
*Ability to read, comprehend and follow detailed laboratory procedures, protocols, and instructions.
*Manual dexterity sufficient to operate and troubleshoot sophisticated equipment, identifies, and corrects technical problems.
*Ability to work under stress, communicate test results to physicians, nursing units, and/or other authorized personnel.
*Skill in use of computers or ability to acquire such skills to operate application packages used by department.
*Requires annual successful completion of all regulatory required testing related competencies.
a.Requires full range of body motion which may include handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination
b.Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time
c.Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range
d.May require exposure to communicable disease, body fluids, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, and other potentially hazardous conditions common to a clinical environment, such as risk of falls, strains, etc.
