Dev Ops Engineer

We are seeking highly creative and intellectually curious DevOps Cloud Engineers to be instrumental in accelerating Capital One's transformation to DevOps and the Public Cloud. As part of an internal engineering consulting and coaching team, you will specialize in helping Capital One's Card Tech Application teams drive efficiency and reliability into their entire Development to Operations lifecycle. While embedding with teams, you will strategize, consult, and prototype alongside other engineers to implement best practices and solutions for applications utilizing CI/CD and the Cloud. You will evangelize Distributed Version Control and Trunk-Based Development practices, ATDD and TDD, Pipelines, Infrastructure and Release Automation, and AWS Solutions.

Responsibilities & Expectations:

  • Ability to plan and lead an engagement with an application team adopting DevOps and Cloud solutions

  • Engineer, consult and upskill other engineers on DevOps and Cloud solutions to include distributed version control and trunk-based development practices, infrastructure automation, automated CI/CD pipelines, monitoring and operations, and a well-architected AWS infrastructure

  • Generate innovative ideas, developing proof-of-concepts and build rapid prototypes alongside other engineers utilizing pair programming and mobbing techniques

  • Design and build solutions to technical challenges, leading the craftsmanship, availability, resilience, and scalability of the solution while continuously improving software engineering practices.

  • Understand software engineering practices and the impact they have on efficient and effective use of DevOps and Cloud solutions.

  • Ability to clearly articulate and explain complex concepts and technologies to a non-technical audience

  • Ability to function in a rapidly evolving environment and adapt to frequent transitions in technologies and teams

  • Strong analytical, interpersonal and verbal communication skills are necessary due to the dynamic nature of collaborations with customers, vendors, and other engineering teams, solving complex system problems together

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or Military Experience

  • At least 2 years of experience with one of the following scripting languages: Python, Ruby, Bash, or Perl

  • At least 2 years of AWS experience

  • At least 2 years of experience with one of the following infrastructure-as-code and automated deployment tools: CHEF, Puppet, Ansible, or Jenkins

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2+ years' experience with Functional and/or OOP programming languages, (i. e. Java, JavaScript, Clojure, ClojureScript, or TypeScript)

  • 2+ years' experience with Linux, server automation and scripting

  • AWS Certified

  • Docker experience

  • Application and/or Infrastructure monitoring experience (i.e. DataDog, ELK, Splunk, NewRelic)
