Job Summary: As an E-Learning Engineer, you will be part of a team that designs and develops learning content and systems at Human Kinetics (HK). The E-Learning and Assessment team at HK produces a wide range of digital products including courseware, assessments, apps, content collections, websites, interactive and adaptive texts, and others, which are designed to produce high-quality learning experiences for those seeking information about physical activity and sport. Primary Responsibilities The E-Learning Engineer will be responsible for four key functions at Human Kinetics: + Participate in the conceptualization, planning, development, delivery, and iteration of a wide range of learning products and systems + Apply learning science, learning analytics, and other relevant disciplines (user experience, for example) to solve practical learning problems + Create design concepts and prototypes in conjunction with designers, product managers, and content developers + Contribute to other design, development, research, and evaluation tasks as needed The E-Learning Engineer must be an independent and technically-adept problem-solver, who can juggle multiple high-volume responsibilities with great autonomy and initiative, while always demonstrating exceptional communication skills and a solution-oriented attitude amidst a dynamic climate of rapid change. This position requires strong project management expertise and outstanding interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills. This position may be requested to lead or contribute to other development efforts depending upon product release schedules. Thus, preference will be given to candidates with complementary skills in diversified areas related to digital learning, visual design, innovation, and assessment. Organizational Chart: Chief Executive Officer > Director, Product Development > Director, E-Learning and Assessment Qualifications: Formal Education and Experience + Bachelor's degree or higher in Learning Science, Information Systems, Educational Technology, Instructional Design, or related field + Minimum four years' experience on projects in learning technology, educational research, and assessment + Previous instructional design, assessment design, and curriculum development experience preferred + Previous software development experience preferred + Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered Desired Skills/Knowledge/Abilities + A well-articulated philosophy regarding the effective use of technology, digital media, and assessment in teaching and learning + Knowledge of learning design principles from cognitive psychology and associated fields + Understanding of evidence-based, learner-centered design processes, techniques, and tools + Experience with web content and digital media development software packages, course management software systems, and content delivery software systems + Fluency with HTML5/CSS/JavaScript with modern web design and development skills, including responsive layout and design + Experience with back-end database tools + Experience with UX/UI design + Experience with publishing technology standards/specifications, including XML, XHTML, and XSLT, and digital outputs, including PDF, EPUB, MOBI, HTML5, and others + Experience with educational technology standards/specifications, including QTI, LTI, Common Cartridge, EDUPUB, SCORM, xAPI, and others + Experience with digital accessibility and usability standards/specifications, including Section 508 accessibility, WCAG, ARIA, WAI-ARIA, and others + Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and complex work in order to meet deadlines with a great attention to detail in a fast-paced, production environment + Effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of internal and external clients + Ability to work productively in a team environment + Ability and motivation to learn new technologies quickly and with minimal support and guidance
