James Madison University, a Division I Member of the NCAA and Colonial Athletic Association, is accepting applications for a Director of Fan and Game Day Engagement. This position reports directly to the Assistant Athletic Director for Customer Relations and Ticketing and will be responsible for overall fan engagement including game day programming and promotional activities. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain a high level of communication, outstanding interpersonal skills and professionalism as a member of the JMU Athletics staff. This position is a full-time, 12-month position with a full comprehensive benefits package. The anticipated start date is December 1, 2018.
This position is responsible for the development and implementation of fan engagement and outreach for JMU Athletics' 18 sport programs, including both game-day/event programming and promotions as well as strategic campaigns to involve fans and the community that result in higher ticket revenues, game attendance and fan engagement. This position will oversee the production of promotional and game day collateral materials in a time sensitive manner and be responsible for oversight and management of the Athletics Marketing budget, which includes both physical and digital elements, while maintaining and enhancing the JMU brand and core values.
The successful candidate will perform an annual review and evaluation of operations and promotional efforts and supervise all in-game and special event promotions including design, logistics, implementation and execution of plans to generate innovative crowd awareness and involvement that result in increased attendance and ticket revenues. The successful candidate is also responsible for student outreach efforts to drive participation and attendance at JMU Athletic events, including a full digital marketing campaign (email, all web platforms including social media), in-game promotional efforts and in-person engagement opportunities. The Director will supervise the Assistant Director of Marketing, Marketing Administrative Assistant, part-time employees and Graduate Assistants and will provide oversight to the Assistant Director of Marketing in the supervision and management of the Athletic Marketing Practicum and Internship Program. The successful candidate will also collaborate with the Coordinator of Spirit and Promotions to manage relationship and event logistics with the JMU Marching Royal Dukes, Dukettes and JMU Cheer.
Candidates must have a Bachelor's degree; a minimum of 3 years' experience in fan engagement and game day production in Division I Athletics, professional sports or comparable and previous experience creating season long and event specific promotional plans. Candidates should demonstrate results tied to attendance building, revenue development, ticket campaigns and successful, large-scale promotions in Division I Athletics, professional sports or comparable. Candidates must have previous experience supervising full-time staff and students in a collegiate athletic setting; ability to maintain relationships with coaches, other athletic department staff members, campus staff and members of the greater community; effective communication skills; ability to perform detail-oriented, creative work; experience working in a team environment and must be able to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends. Candidates must possess the ability to communicate effectively and work well with all JMU constituents (including alumni, students, parents, faculty, staff, and local community) to better enhance public relations. Preference will be given to candidates with a Master's degree in Marketing, Sports Marketing or Sports Management and experience in public speaking.
