Job Description
Job Purpose: Provides strategies and methods to increase and enhance Gonzaga's athletic department's image to the general public, benefactors, donor prospects, season ticket holders, athletic alumni, parents and fans through the publication of communications designed to inform constituents and promote Gonzaga University Athletics. The Sports Information Director is skilled at communications and promotion via a variety of media, including but not limited to media releases and advisories, feature stories, infographics, various internet publishing platforms, relevant social media applications, and acts as a department spokesperson dealing with the media for assigned sports. Works independently to lead Sports Information area in development of day-to-day content creation strategy and implementation. Utilizes new media formats to meet organizational objectives and report results and highlights of all Gonzaga athletics events to local, regional and national media. Must be able to multi-task, often producing varied, detailed and accurate communications under tight deadlines and with limited supervision. The position works in a team environment in association with the other Sports Information Directors and in-house clients (ie: marketing, annual giving, major gifts, ticket office, sports info, alumni, academics, etc.), and provides strategy for assigned sports and identifies opportunities for collaboration and synergy between athletic marketing, social media of the department and individual sports, graphic design and video production. The individual must cultivate and maintain positive working relationships with coaches, members of print, electronic and emerging media, and demonstrate timely and accurate response to requests with information that is a credit to the University, its coaches and student-athletes. The individual must be proactive in promotion of story lines and programmatic advantages that tell the Gonzaga story and advance the University's mission.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in journalism, public relations, marketing communications or related field.

Three years of experience in graphic art/design, marketing or public relations.

Expertise in PhotoShop, InDesign and/or other Adobe Creative Suite software with proven skill in the area of graphic design.

Proficient in StatCrew software.

Experience using a content management system tool such as Netitor.

Skilled in producing precise and highly-creative graphic designs.

Energetic and motivated self-starter with strong organizational skills and the ability to work within a competitive and collaborative environment and meet critical project deadlines.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Must have the ability to solve problems, make decisions, multi-task and prioritize ongoing and new projects successfully.

Must be able to work collaboratively with sports information, athletic marketing, coaches and others relative to media events and announcements.

Valid driver's license and ability to travel as needed to oversee press checks, direct photo shoots, and pick-up and deliver printed projects.
