Play a critical role in communicating, both internally and externally, Minnesota Twins key messaging. Work with department members to lead and execute the communication vision including effective media relations tactics that communicate the Twins story. Assist in the shaping of the brand, image and overall awareness of the Minnesota Twins across the Upper Midwest through the development and execution of the team's overall communications strategy, with emphasis on business and baseball communications. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist in all aspects of the Communications department -- Focus on business communications, which includes but not limited to: serve as team spokesperson when needed, proactively "pitch" stories, develop a strategic plan for public relations opportunities with business related announcements and build a working relationship with local business media members. Generate positive publicity beyond traditional team-focused coverage (business initiatives, promotional campaigns, Target Field events and player/community involvement). Work with Communications personnel to ensure the timely distribution of key team information and special announcements including, Target Field events, concerts, team media guide, season summary, business and baseball related press releases. Serve as communications lead for all business related public relations efforts. Manage and organize all communications needs and requests from club's business and marketing departments and ensure timely well planned announcements in efforts to maximize team revenue and publicity initiatives. Write and distribute press releases and media advisories for team and business announcements. Monitor Twins news and industry trends and disseminate to appropriate members of the front office. Prepare monthly reports and organize key talking points as needed. Support Communications personnel with all daily notes, research and current storylines (when needed). Incorporate club news, announcements, promotional items, and theme nights into all daily distribution methods. Assist with writing and editing of official team media guide and season summaries. Contribute to the research, development and production of daily game notes and post-game notes. Work with marketing (social media) department on creative branding in regards to announcements on all special events, player news, ticket packages and unique themed promotional initiatives. Manage and maintain internal communications calendar. Assist in managing department staff with focus on personal development and career growth opportunities. Serve as team spokesperson when requested. Assist in the training and scheduling of communications department interns. Work on special projects as assigned. Requirements
College degree, preferably with a major in Communications, Brand Management, Journalism or Sports Administration. Minimum of five years of related experience. The ability to work independently as well as collaboratively across multiple departments. Baseball knowledge and a strong understanding of the game. Comfortable speaking in front of groups, including on-camera and radio interviews. Knowledge and skilled in leveraging both digital and traditional channels to create impactful communications that drive awareness and engagement. Highly motivated individual to meet the challenges and urgency presented in a unique professional sports work environment. Ability to prioritize, multi-task, solve problems independently and work effectively under pressure when necessary. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work long, flexible hours, including weekends and holidays. Ability to travel as requested/needed throughout the season Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Cloud.
