Associate Program - 2019
Posted on Nov 14, 2018 by National Basketball Association
As a global sports and media business, the NBA is so much more. While Basketball Operations runs the league's on-court activities, other departments manage relationships with television and digital media partners, develop marketing partnerships with some of the world's most recognizable companies, oversee the licensing of NBA merchandise, and handle a wide range of responsibilities that drive the NBA's success.
2019 NBA Associate Program
The NBA Associate Program is a two-year, immersion-based career development program designed to cultivate a pipeline of diverse, talented professionals and future leaders. Program participants rotate through work assignments across core areas of the NBA, learning the business of sports through hands-on experience that prepares them for successful careers in the industry.
Associates rotate through areas of the business in work assignments up to six months in duration, assisting with high priority projects and global initiatives aligned with the NBA's strategic priorities. Assignment areas may include:
- Digital Media
- Team Finance
- Global Partnerships
- Media Distribution
- Global Innovation
- Latin America (NY Based)
- League Operations
- NBA 2K League
- NBA G League
- Social Responsibility & Player Programs
- Team Marketing & Business Operations
At the conclusion of the program, an Associate typically receives an offer to join a department as a full-time employee if his or her performance, accumulated experience, and career goals align with the NBA's business needs.
The Associate Program includes a robust curriculum of professional development activities. Throughout the two years, Associates receive extensive training to grow high-value professional skills such as time and priority management, business writing and presentation methods. Associates complete several self-assessments (DiSC and Emotional Intelligence) and receive strategic coaching that identifies strengths and areas for development.
Associates' exposure to the business of basketball includes attendance at a variety of NBA events, including live games and the NBA Draft, as well as participation in the NBA's business review process, global experiences and discussion forums with senior executives.
Candidates must have an excellent academic history and exceptional leadership skills demonstrated through extracurricular or community activities, business-related internships, or other comparable experiences. We are particularly interested in candidates who are fluent in a second language from a location where the NBA maintains an office.
