Intern Program - 2019
Posted on Nov 14, 2018 by National Basketball Association
As a global sports and media business, the NBA is so much more. While Basketball Operations runs the league's on-court activities, other departments manage relationships with television and digital media partners, develop marketing partnerships with some of the world's most recognizable companies, oversee the licensing of NBA merchandise, and handle a wide range of responsibilities that drive the NBA's success.
2019 NBA Intern Program
The NBA U.S. Intern Program is a 10-week (June to August) full-time program that enhances students' experience by bridging the gap between the academic environment and a future work environment. Interns learn the business of basketball off the court and behind-the-scenes of a global sports organization through direct exposure to NBA, WNBA, NBA G League and NBA 2K League executives. Interns will contribute to our efforts to be the world's most successful and respected sports league.
Intern placements are based on current business needs, as well as the intern's interests and relevant experience. All positions are located at the NBA League offices in NYC or Secaucus, NJ. Assignment areas may include:
- Digital Media
- Team Finance
- Global Partnerships
- Media Distribution
- Global Innovation
- Latin America (NY Based)
- League Operations
- NBA 2K League
- NBA G League
- Social Responsibility & Player Programs
- Team Marketing & Business Operations
The Intern Program includes a robust curriculum of professional development activities, including an orientation that acclimates interns to their work environment. Interns participate in multiple training programs, events and activities designed to broaden their knowledge of the industry. Their exposure to the business of basketball includes attendance at a variety of events, such as the NBA Draft and an NBA Cares activity, and participation in discussion forums with executives from a variety of departments.
To qualify for the Intern Program, students must be either (a) enrolled in an accredited undergraduate college or university and be between their junior and senior year as of the Summer 2019 OR (b) enrolled in an accredited graduate program (typically MBA or law) and be between their first and second year, or, if law students, between their first and second year as of the Summer 2019.
