Job Description

This position provides digital forensic and investigative support to all investigations that fall within the purview of the NFL. The work involves examining digital information from incidents that have or may have an impact on the operation, brand, or reputation of the NFL. Investigators will gather and store data, recover files, and detect where cyber incident activity may have originated. They also may be called upon to extract information from destroyed devices, keep detailed logs of activities, and handle sensitive information (e.g., documents, videos, financial information) in a professional manner. They have a strong working knowledge of computers (hardware and software), programming languages, and systems, as well as databases, communication systems, digital surveillance, networking, and hacking patterns.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Conduct data extraction/recovery operations in order to obtain artifacts from a variety of digital sources to include; laptops, digital cameras, tablets, smart phones, flash drives, etc.; including the restoration and decryption of protected files.
  • Recover and examine data from computers and other electronic storage devices in support of internal investigations, potential criminal matters and e-discovery efforts.
  • Provide detailed reporting, in verbal and written formats, in order to support investigators and key decision makers.
  • Serve as subject matter expert relative to digital forensic investigations, providing consultation to management and testimony when necessary.
  • Coordinate, supervise and manage detailed and complex investigations.
  • Assign and manage investigative tasks performed by security representatives; review and approve detailed investigative reports.
  • Support detailed due diligence and pre-employment background investigations.
  • Support other league departments to include Compliance, Human Resources, Internal Audit and Legal on sensitive issues, or other matters of importance.
  • Develop and conduct security briefs for League and Club personnel traveling abroad.
  • Other department administration, as assigned by Chief Security Officer
  • Supplement game day operations for International and Super Bowl games


Supervisory Responsibility:

This position will require some supervision of contract security representatives and analysts.

Physical Demands:

Role requires moderate walking and climbing stairs in connection with sit visits and NFL stadiums and events.

Travel:

Extensive domestic travel to and from NFL team cities or other required work locations, including some international travel; approximately 50% of work time.

Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position. Travel and weekend work will be required.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated expertise in conducting complex and varied civil/criminal investigations to include, but not limited to financial crimes, crimes of violence and gambling offenses.
  • Expertise in both civil and criminal judicial processes, to include rules of evidence, prosecutorial determinations, court proceedings and civil lawsuits.
  • Familiarization with current specialized tools designed to facilitate the performance of their duties.
  • Ability to testify in court and to relate the evidence found during investigations.
  • Ability to collect digital evidence and maintain the chain of custody.
  • Ability to determine how unapproved access to computer/digital system was gained.
  • Identifying security measures to prevent data breaches.
  • Educate users on proper security policy and processes.
  • Ability analyze data found in an investigation, create summary reports and provide expert testimony.

  • Strong background in intelligence gathering, to include familiarity and use of online resources, subscription services and public record checks
  • Proven track record as a strong communicator - written and oral presentations, capable of rapidly creating detailed, yet concise written reports
  • Extensive network of law enforcement contacts at the local, state and federal level
  • Familiarity with current social media and its usage
  • Proficiency in the use of investigative databases
  • Expertise in Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Must be able to deal effectively with different types of people, at all levels of internal and external organizations
  • Strong analytical skills

Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited 4-year College or University (computer science, computer forensics, or cybersecurity preferred).
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in law enforcement or related field, with at least 2 years of experience in management
  • Possess appropriate certification and training pertaining to performing digital forensic examinations on computers, mobile devices, and all other digital storage devices
