Position Summary:
As an EMC Design Senior Engineer, you will be part of a central team focused on Electromagnetic Interference and Compatibility (EMI / EMC) requirements, having a direct impact on product quality and reliability. The team partners with Rockwell Automation's system architect, logic design, signal integrity and PCB Design teams globally. Opportunities will exist to educate others and grow your own skills.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Creates the EMC design review/problem analysis strategy for assigned projects with oversight from more senior engineers
  • Develops methods and procedures for EMC Design team
  • Represents EMC Design on new/legacy product project team and coordinates EMC Design activities with those of other departments
  • Communicates project status, concepts and issues and matches the message to the audience
  • Manages medium complexity projects independently
  • Works with architecture and design teams to evaluate design tradeoffs for design optimization considering performance, cost and manufacturability requirements
  • Recommends process improvements to increase team capabilities and efficiency
  • Generates and verifies PCB layout guidelines
  • Validates simulations in the lab and determines if design specifications are met
  • Performs design reviews
  • Documents simulation and validation results
  • Effectively presents to small groups

Basic Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Position will require some travel (10-15%, possibly international)
  • Legal authorization to work in the US is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Typically requires 5 years of electrical design experience (i.e. micro controller products)
  • Solid understanding of electromagnetic field and transmission line theory
  • Circuit and Interface Design Experience
  • Experience with identifying potential design issues and providing options for solutions
  • Experience with PCB stack-up design
  • Experience with simulation and analysis tools from Mentor Graphics or equivalent, Analog Circuit Simulator (e.g. Synopsis HSPICE), Digital Circuit design.
  • Exposure to gigabit and higher speed channel analysis.
  • Experience with lab equipment such as high-bandwidth oscilloscopes, Time Domain Reflectometers, Vector Network Analyzers (VNA), Signal Generators, Bit Error Rate Testers, Logic Analyzers and Spectrum Analyzers
  • Experience troubleshooting system/circuit behavior
  • Exposure to EMC test environment and methods.
  • Ability to work well in a diverse, cross-functional and global team
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
