CIC Miami, in partnership with the University of Miami, seeks a Lab Support Manager on a contractual basis to oversee the general operations of our shared labs and to ensure the safety of the community. This role's schedule is flexible, and we expect it will entail 2-3 hours per week during regular business hours. Please let us know in your application what your ideal work schedule would be.

Life science startup companies need affordable, move-in-ready laboratory facilities suitable for early-stage research, and they also need to identify and create demand for potential commercialization opportunities. This is where CIC and Converge Shared labs come in to help.

The Lab Support Manager will work in collaboration with both CIC Leads and University of Miami support partners, taking responsibility for managing the general operations of the private lab spaces and ensuring the overall safety of the community. This position will develop, monitor, and provide leadership for applicable safety regulations and client compliances, including but not limited to: proper use of instruments/equipment, biohazard disposal, hygiene, and chemical agent registration. Additional responsibilities will include:

Client Relations:

  • Act as an on-call source of authority on laboratory operations, procedures, and safety regulations.

  • Review and approve prospective client proposals, ensuring proposed work is compliant with permitted uses and service agreement restrictions.

  • Review research protocols of internal research groups, staying in tune with the research projects occurring in the lab at any given time.

  • Liaise between CIC, University of Miami, and building management to ensure facility safety requirements and building guidelines are met for laboratories.

  • Respond to questions surrounding facility management (equipment maintenance and certification, hazardous material removal plans, etc.)

  • Organize and manage laboratory compliance audits.

    Management of Labs:

  • Oversee laboratory safety and ensure that the laboratory remains in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations. In cases where non-compliance is found, document the instances as well as how they were abated.

  • Manage and update chemical inventories and/or Risk Group Agent inventories.

  • Assist CIC staff in communicating and enforcing laboratory safety rules and ensure client compliance.

  • Maintain laboratory equipment performance by establishing quality standards.

  • Develop operations, quality, and troubleshooting procedures.

  • Coordinate safety trainings for new lab users and experienced lab users as necessary. Possible trainings may include equipment training, safety training and/or lab safety plan reviews; ensure the training has been documented.


  • Excellent interpersonal and client management skills with a professional and customer service oriented demeanor.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, which may include business and technical writing, editing and proofreading.

  • Experience working with laboratory equipment, data/information management systems or laboratory database would be beneficial.

  • Bachelor's degree in science or health-related field or equivalent experience.

  • 3 or more years in laboratory/project management setting.

  • Preferred: Medical technologist degree or prior experience implementing clinical research testing.
