The University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) Academic Success Center invites applications for a full-time, 12 month Academic Eligibility Specialist position. This position is responsible for providing academic counseling and support for student-athletes to ensure that they make satisfactory/appropriate academic progress towards graduation and meet all university, conference, and NCAA eligibility requirements. This includes counseling student-athletes concerning the institution's academic requirements, international student requirements, student support structure, NCAA progress towards degree requirements and MWC eligibility requirements; working closely with all academic units to monitor and evaluate each student-athlete's academic standing and progress towards major/degree completion; referring student athletes to additional resources across campus; assisting with the evaluation and certification of student athletes' NCAA initial eligibility/continuing eligibility/transfer eligibility; communicating regularly with colleagues to ensure compliance with eligibility requirements; planning/conducting student-athlete orientation sessions and objective-based learning meetings, facilitating/recommending tutoring for students, monitoring class attendance, and preparing periodic reports; participating in on-campus recruiting activities; participating in the SAAS programming and other duties as assigned by the Assistant Athletics Director and Director of SAAS.


The Academic Eligibility Specialist position requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, Master's degree preferred, with a minimum of one year of experience related to required job duties (particularly advising) and one year of comparable experience.

Qualifications include knowledge of Division I NCAA recruiting/eligibility/amateurism/financial aid/awards & benefits rules & regulations, knowledge of student information systems (e.g., PeopleSoft, GradesFirst), knowledge of computer database management and the ability to plan, coordinate as well as articulate policies and procedures to students, faculty/staff and parents. Experience in the unique environment of intercollegiate athletics preferred. Successful candidates must have demonstrated communication skills and computer skills, be highly functional with regard to decision making and problem solving skills. Effective time management skills and the ability to balance a wide variety of tasks and a large caseload in an efficient and effective manner are vital to the success of this position. Some nights and weekends may be required.
