Job Description
The University of South Alabama seeks applications for a paid full-time internship position in the Strategic Communications department. This position will serve as the primary contact for women's basketball, and assigned duties with selected Olympic sport programs as well as office and football game day responsibilities.

Duties include: Assist in the day-to-day management and operation of the Strategic Communications department; Build/nurture professional relationships with members of the media in order to promote the University's 17 intercollegiate athletics programs on a national, regional and local level; Learning to develop and implement strategies to increase awareness of the department's achievements through the media; Gain experience managing media requests for information, interviews, news conferences and photo sessions with athletic administrators, coaches and student-athletes; Assist in developing and maintaining all aspects of the University's athletic web site; Assist in all department social media efforts including using graphics, photo and video content; Supervise all sports information/public relations duties for multiple programs including but not limited to designing and writing media guides and brochures, games notes, press releases; Generating team and player story ideas on regular basis; Compile and maintain team statistics and records; Assist with overall game management operations, including coordinating press box/row operations and issuing credentials, for numerous games and special events; File all necessary reports with the NCAA and Sun Belt Conference; must have a clear understanding of NCAA rules. Position is a 12-month appointment with the opportunity to renew for a second year.

Other duties and responsibilities: Prompt and regular attendance; Ability to work schedule as defined (night and weekend hours, as well as travel will be required); Other duties as required/assigned by the Associate Athletic Director for Strategic Communications.

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree, in journalism, athletics administration, public relations or similar fields; Preferably a minimum of one year experience in a college sports information office, or equivalent; Outstanding written and oral communications ability, editing ability and knowledge of AP style; Knowledge of desktop publishing software (Adobe InDesign, QuarkXPress, PageMaker), Adobe PhotoShop, Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer; Familiarity with Stat Crew Systems software required; Demonstrated ability to work on multiple tasks.
