Job Description

Under the direction of the Senior Director, the Membership Director will plan, administer and evaluate the Membership department and supervise staff. This position is primarily responsible for the design and implementation of the branch Membership department and for the successful achievement of $3.6 million in membership revenue. Also, this position will play a key role in delivering the membership experience, fundraising, supervising membership services and playcenter staff. Qualifications

  • Two (2) or more years related experience and training and development of high performing teams.
  • Must have a background in staff team development and relationship management.
  • Seeks, cultivates and supervises volunteers.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Hands on experience with utilizing data to make an informed decisions.
  • Personal commitment to service and hospitality.
  • If internal to the YMCA, must have a minimum Team Leader Certification.

Essential Functions

  • Recruit, hire, train, develop, schedule, supervise, and evaluate the Membership and Playcenter department employees and volunteers.
  • Develop and implement a plan to attract and recruit new members and corporate partnerships.
  • Conduct pilots for new programs; develop plans and manage best practices through engagement of the staff team.
  • Ensures programs and services meet community needs.
  • Promotes program and membership enrollment in interactions with existing and potential members. Coordinates program registration, including logistics to support phone, walk-in and web registration. Coordinates with marketing efforts to maximize enrollments and provides ongoing support to Program Directors on related issues.
  • Effectively manage budgets; hold staff accountable for high-quality results using a formal process to measure progress.
  • Organizes membership events at the YMCA and represents the YMCA at community events to promote the YMCA.
  • Ensures a level of service and engagement that fosters loyalty among those we serve.
  • Foster a climate of innovation.
  • Monitor progress towards branch's goals by running and reviewing all necessary reports.
  • Coordinates marketing efforts to maximize enrollments and provides ongoing support to the Senior Director on related issues.
  • Collaborate with the Association key departments to lead, coordinate and support implementation of key initiatives related to marketing, social media and communications, human resources and financial development.
  • Gathers data about member satisfaction and interests to ensure connection to programs, services, and other members.

  • Works collaboratively with the branch Wellness Director on monthly fitness challenges
  • Ensures adherence to all YMCA policies and procedures regarding the safety, health and welfare of members, program participants, guests and staff.
  • Advocates for association-wide practices and is a source for innovative ways to grow the membership experience, base, and practices.
  • Provides collaborative leadership and guidance to peers through association-wide membership cabinet meetings, direct one-on-one best practice sharing with peers both in and outside the center.
  • Develops and monitors staff member development plans and training opportunities that promote career growth within the Y.
  • Completes all job related, supervisory and other trainings as required.
  • Plays a leadership role in the Why It Matters annual fundraising campaign in regards to recruitment and development of key volunteers and solicitation of gifts.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
